Probably will get some clarification on that next year. I know they installed it because they were struggling to fill out brackets. To my knowledge anyone can apply for the NCS playoffs now.

They implemented it for one year because of Covid and a lot of teams didn't come close to the 26 games and as I could imagine, everyone took some losses when their teams were decimated by covid. I really don't have a problem with it..i have more of a problem with other things the section committee's did this year

After the first 5 seeds in D1 and the 6 open the SOS metric definitely stopped being a factor.
