So I've been in Vegas the past week for the WCC tournament. I checked when the CIF Brackets were released, and I was absolutely stunned that my alma mater Stuart Hall got dinged so hard for one loss against a solid Saint Mary's Basketball team.

So No. 9 Stuart Hall (19-11 with a 167 ranking on Maxpreps) has to travel to No. 8 Foothill (12-18 ranking on maxpreps 584).

I mean seriously the SPSV thing was one thing, but how the heck does this happen to Stuart Hall? How do we not get the 8 and they the 9 seed and we host?

This difference is about 3 hours roundtrip, 4 if you count traffic.

I hope my boys use this as fuel, but IMO it's a complete travesty!

what about their losses to HMB, Riordan, Mills, Berkeley? Plus they play in a weak league? Besides University, there really wasn't anyone else this year.

Stuart Hall is just lucky to have gotten an at large berth the the D4 Norcal's after losing to #6 St. Mary's. They could be at home watching.

Actually, it's a very good, small school league. Lick Wilmerding was good before they lost their 6'5 stud Junior, Zach Johnson. And Urban is well coached and will likely do quite well in D5. And Foothill appears to have no good wins, and got annihilated by, among others, Rio Americano (#12 seed in D3) by 38,Foothill of Palo Cedro (#11 seed in D3) by 34, Manteca (didn't qualify for NorCals) by 32. The Hall's worse loss was to University (#3 seed in D3) by 21 and also lost to them by 8 & 12 the other two times they've played. Lost to HMB (#5 seed in D3) by 13, Branson (#1 seed in D3) by 12 and 14, Menlo (#13 in D1) by 15, Riordan (#13 in D2) by 2 and a decent Mills squad on the road by 7 (who lost in the CCS semis; had they been in any other section, they move on as a top 6 section team. Plus they beat NorCal participants Lowell, Argonaut (#1 seed in D5; by 41!!!), Envision of Oakland and Mission (#7 in D3, by 4). Plus they also beat larger, and traditionally strong, schools Miramonte and Sac High. No brainer that, if they're getting a nod, they should have been a much higher D4 seed despite losing in the NCS Quarterfinals.

Stuart Hall wins 61-59 and has No. 1 seed Santa Cruz up next.

I'll be there and be sure to live post from the game!

ayalar09, I think your the kid I met at the Crush in the Valley. We talked about your team and how young they are. I think they have a good future and should really peek next year. Enjoy this year and know you have a pretty good future.

Here's wishing you great hoops

According to Maxpreps Stuart Hall is D4. Next up is Santa Cruz #1 seed but their most impressive win this year is probably Jefferson in CCS D4 playoffs. Stuart Hall has played a much more difficult schedule / plays in a better league so I got Stuart Hall moving onto to Regional Semis. Stuart Hall does have all their key players returning next year as well as strong sophomore and freshman classes.

@Marcskit I remember you were the Gridley guy I believe. Hope you guys chose my Knights for that tournament next year. You guys always put together a heck of a lineup for that Gridley Invitational.

Btw just to address the guy who said that Stuart Hall was lucky to get in. They did not lose one game to a team that did not make the playoffs. All their losses, though many, were quality losses. They SHOULD have beat Riordan but blew a big lead. Could have beat University at Stuart Hall, had a couple calls gone their way.

Branson and University alone beat them 5 times, and both those teams are legitimate top 100 teams in California easy. Branson may even win the whole D3 tourney.

I'm excited for Saturday to get here. Going from SF to Sac, back to SF then SF to Santa Cruz and back is not an easy route to get to the State Championship, but I know my Knights are more than capable of giving any of those teams a close game!

Quality loss? You mean a loss. No such thing as a good, quality or swell loss.

I'm just making the point that none of their 11 losses came against bad opponents.

People saying Saint Mary's is this horrible team, yet they got a 3 seed in the D4 CIF Tournament......

I don't really care if your team wins or loses. SH has a couple of decent wins this year, and a whole lot of losses. Plus, when their season was on the line vs. St. Mary's, they didn't get it done. Enough said. Good teams find a way to win when their season is on the line, and SH didn't deliver in the clutch. If your team played in the CCS, their season would be done. Look at Jefferson.

BTW, they barely beat a 12-18 Foothill team.

Back in the day I would tell you to get your weak "sh*t" out of here after I swatted away your weak ass layup.

Good luck the rest of the way, but I think SH is a year away.

Yes Im that guy. I talked to the Coach but did not hear back. Maybe in the future we can make it happen. 2019? Who knows.

Here's wishing you great hoops

@Marcskit I know it’s early but do you guys already have your lineup for next year Gridley? I’m sure Salesian is returning. Who else? Gridley is hands down best tournament in Northern California.

Darn. I was really hoping I could convince the coach to add not only Gridley but Alameda High School to the schedule next year.

Wishing your Gridley team the same! That day was a very fun day btw.

I swear that is a state secret every year.

The Kremlin has been tapping into our system, but we are circumventing that, and should know soon.
Here's wishing you great hoops
