Davis High out of SFL for football

^^ This should have happened 4+ weeks ago when Davis announced they were forfeiting to Folsom.

They could have spared the rest of the SFL from wasting their time. Those who wanted a real challenge could have tried to line up an alternate opponent.

Now GB and Del Oro have to go through the motions the next two weeks.

What a complete embarrassment the CIF/SJS is. Any member of this forum -- unaffiliated with either party -- could have told them is was an untenable decision.

Can they just place Grant Union back in the SFL already? Seriously, now that GHS has rebounded as a program the past few years -- it seems to me the layup move is to just to swap GHS and Davis (football only).

The Pacers don't belong in the Metro anyway and Davis could at least compete against half that league.

I know from being a Monterey Trail supporter that it can be very difficult to go independent or swap leagues in between realignment cycles.

Davis pulling out for football-only is smart, and should be a trend. DHS could easily slip back into the Delta, making it a balanced 8-team league. Or they could simply play most of the Delta teams in what is now the league-season when the 7th team is the odd man out.

As for Grant moving back to the SFL for football-only, I think that ship has sailed. Grant is in a great spot now because they will always be competitive/dominant in league play and can schedule high caliber out-of-area teams to challenge themselves without worrying about missing the playoffs. Additionally, the SFL teams have to unanimously welcome Grant back. I doubt that all of the SFL teams would agree to Grant returning. MT tried to swap with Grant and head to the SFL a few years back. It was rejected out of hand by almost all of them.

Anyway, I know you are just venting. There are a bunch of us on this board frustrated with the alignments when we can all see other sections doing a better job of sorting their football teams. The Davis-in-the-SFL scenario was always going to be an obvious disaster with football in the mix. So preventable.

There will always be a last place team in every league and sometimes there is a big gap between them and the rest of the league. So I try to have some grace with these realignment decisions. BUT everyone knew that Davis to the SFL was a terrible idea when it was announced. And it didn't even make geographic sense either.

Big picture, the gap between the haves and have nots in HS football is getting bigger by the year and trying to set up leagues/playoffs with that backdrop is getting harder.

This is good, it opens up a week so the SFL teams can play compelling Non league games against other leagues like EBAL, WCAL, etc…..

And maybe we will get Folsom vs DLS back!…. 🤣

Since Davis wants no part of the SFL, will they still play Del Oro in game 10? If not maybe Del Oro and 9-0 Hughson with a D-1 QB can hook up? Davis can play Modesto Christian.

That’s what I was thinking now Folsom has 4 non league games on the schedule. It’s time for that cen 10 vs Folsom matchup if they have the balls.
