De La Salle bounces back to beat No. 1 Foothill

No. 6 De La Salle (14-5) dropped two games last week to St. Francis and Granada, but beat. No. 1 Foothill-Pleasanton (16-1-1) 3-1 on Wednesday.

Senior right-hander Cullen Kafka continued his standout year going the distance for two hitter with a walk and eight strikeouts. He gave up a home run to his pitching counterpart Brett Hansen, but he retired the next 12 batters and didn't allow a runner past first base the rest of the afternoon.

On the year, the Oregon signee is 7-1 with a 1.42 ERA. He has eight walks to 57 strikeouts over 44.1 innings.

Hansen, a junior commit to Stanford, went five innings of three run ball (one earned) with five strikeouts.

Three Falcon errors in the first two innings helped De La Salle gain a 2-1 lead before Khalid Johnson added a sacrifice fly in the fifth.

Ryan Cole (Notre Dame) went 2-for-3 and it hitting .406 over 10 games. He extended his hitting streak to four games and has at least one hit in six of the past seven.

Foothill has totaled six hits and four runs over the past three games against San Ramon Valley, Monte Vista and the Spartans.
