New DO coach was announced yesterday. They went internal this time and promoted last season's freshman HC to run the program, Mike Maben. He's a well liked teacher on campus and hold's kids accountable and has a strong reputation. Loves kids, teaching, and coaching. Will bring strong character to the role.

I don't know anything abut Mike so I won't jump in to say whether this is a good hire or not. Is he an alum of the school?

I will note that it is interesting that two big brands (Bellarmine and Del Oro) went with on-campus hires who were coaching in their lower levels.

I coached Mike when he was a freshmen in 1992 at DO. He is a great guy. Was HC of Wrestling for a long time as well.

I think this is a great hire! Mike is respected by players, parents, staff, and district. He will empower his coordinators & coaching staff. He is black and gold all the way through and he’s a young guy who can be at the helm for a long time. He’s huge on academics, character, & community service. I’m pleased he is the guy to lead the program going forward!

Yea, he runs the girls wrestling program which has a couple of nationally ranked girls on it as well. Probably have to give that up but I agree, he is quality person. Good to hear of your experience with him.

He is a DO alum.

IMO this appears to have been a District move. I don't feel the Admin. at DO had anything to do with this move. New HC is the front man and Fasani runs the football operation...

Principals have immense personnel power in Publics. Districts? Maybe for Principals/Asst Prin. Teachers down to custodians? Principals. But ADs certainly have their ear...
This is Ca not Tx. “Are we gonna move again?” LOL

And not only both coaches are in-house, they are coming from a frosh head coaching position. I don’t know if the del oro coach was in his first year for the freshman team as the bell coach?

Looks like Dan Gazzaniga will come back to DO as offensive coordinator, DC Josh Parry will be picking up the Assistant Head coach role and Fasani will be QB coach. Del Oro will have a great coaching staff next season. Gazzaniga is a brilliant offensive mind.

That's the start of a very good staff

This is not a job or campus that I would want to be on. On campus coaches have proven to be a key to success. How do you compete in the SFL when 3 PE positions are held by tenured teachers who are former football coaches? How does this picture look if these 3 coaches start coaching at rival SFL schools? Look at the struggles programs under similar circumstances have had. No doubt, all good coaches but coaching on a divided campus has its own set of challenges.

Your point is well taken.. Top three and most important spots are filled by off campus people.....All well qualified thou....In todays world it is off campus coaches that drive the majority of programs.....

Very true, most teachers no longer want to coach. And if the 3 former coaches try to sabotage the program, what does that say about them? Zero character!
