Grace Bliss scored 21 points tonight to become the all time scoring leader in the history of Colfax girl’s basketball. The previous record of 2073 points was set by Kelly Kuelper back in 1993. Grace is now at 2083 points and counting. Congratulations on your amazing achievement Grace!

This team, school and player are all so under appreciated. A public school of 580 kids in the foothills of the Sierras who are number 2 in California, with a player at the level that Grace plays at is so rare. They have 8 players, three freshmen and no one over 5’11. They are a team that could win the state championship if they’re able to stay at D5. Grace is the best player in the region and this is the best public small school in California, period

Very true and your point is very well taken. Colfax is one of the top "Public" Division 5 girls basketball teams in California. The underappreciated issue, however, is due to Colfax's geographic location and scheduling. To get on the radar the team will have to travel, play and beat some small private Bay Area teams or Division 1 & 2 Sacramento area teams to get noticed. Yep--definitely not fair, but that's a reality. St. Joseph of Alameda (enrollment 470), Pinewood (300), East Side College Prep (336), Salesian-Richmond (417), Woodside Priory (385), Cardinal Newman (568), all fall under Division 5.
Colfax has done very well in the past from a SJS sections point of view. But when it comes to these blogs, the talk and interest is in the top teams regardless of enrollment size, geographic location, and private vs. public. An unfair reality--yes. Many schools regardless of enrollment would envy Colfax's past SJS section tournament history. Colfax was placed in Division 4 last year in the CIF state tournament. I wouldn't be surprised if they are placed there again this year.

I give Colfax much credit for traveling to play good teams. They played in the North Bay twice, in the East Bay and in Sacramento. A lot of good teams just don't want to go to the trouble of getting out on the road.

Hope things go well for them in postseason ...

Notable wins this season for the Lady Falcons:
Aptos, Central (Fresno), Marin Catholic, Lincoln (Stockton), SPSV (Colfax won the Opal division WCJ), North Salinas, Pleasant Valley (Chico).
Lost to Franklin (Elk Grove) by 4 and led most of the game, lost to Alameda by 4 and led until the last few minutes.
Colfax had a 14.6 strength of schedule before entering a pretty weak league. This is quite an amazing group of young ladies. Come check us out if you have the chance.

Thanks for all the thoughtful feedback. For several reasons, I fell in love with this group even though I have no connections to the school other then living in the region. Along with many other “old-timers” we really enjoy watching their play. It’s all about defense and working together. When they warm up, most teams laugh but generally by the end of the game, it’s only the Colfax fans laughing. It’s too bad the league is so low the past two years but Colfax has played several good programs and never plays anyone close to their size with the exception of the privates.

Grace is a very talented player, but Jzaniya Harriel at Antelope in my opinion, is hands down the best player in the Sacramento region. The SacBee POY last year is having an amazing season.

Grace is now at 2102 points and counting, and is approaching 1000 career rebounds with 982.

Bliss is one of the finest three sport athletes this state has seen in quite some time. Unfortunate shade was just thrown on Bliss With the posters own player Who has received an incredible amount of attention.

No shade, I said Grace is a special talented player, but in my opinion Harriet is the best players in Sacramento are. I’m a bit biased no doubt. Best of luck in playoffs.

Grace Bliss goes over 1000 career rebounds today, and junior Jazzy Owens surpasses 1000 career points as the Colfax Lady Falcons win their second section title in three years.

Congratulations to both individual (Bliss) and team! However, Colfax has won consecutive, back-to-back Division 5 SJS section championships. Colfax is also a SIX-time Division 4 SJS section champion.
Colfax won the D5 SJS section championship final today (Friday) by the score of 66-23 over Golden Sierra. Colfax won their semi-final game 72-11 over Ben Holt Academy on Monday. And Colfax won the quarter-final game 77-19 over Leroy Green Academy. Colfax received an opening 1st round Bye. This indicates to me that Colfax needs to move up to D4 at the section level. It's too easy for them at D5.
Now a move up to Division 4, just like last year, at the NorCals level.

Colfax will go D4 for NorCals and should compete with anyone at that level. This group has played with one another since 5th grade and they’re all three sport athletes and 4.0 students at an IB school with rigorous classes. The community, students, staff, and administrators make this group even more special. I didn’t get to go to the section final but I heard there was over 400 students at the game for a school of 580 kids. If someone can verify who attended, that’s pretty amazing. Can’t wait for NorCals
