I get a sense from this list that points scored was weighted a lot more than ball handling, defense, or rebounding, and definitely more than the total player package.

Gerhart was player of the year. Bayston and Blackard 1st team. And where the heck is Kaylie Edge (Cal sophomore)?

Bonderer only played 3-4 games in league. All league is just that...what you did in league, not necessarily for the entire season. It's questionable who should have been MVP but heck of a list...

Who would you remove from 1st team from this list?

If you look at college and even the NBA, MVP is now PURLEY a scorers title. James harden one of the best scorers never defends yet is always in the convo...same goes with Russell Westbrook and his stat padding. I've always thought of it as if you took her off your team how much of an impact would it have and if you put her on a poor performing team, how much of an impact would she have? something along those lines

Mauricio and Santich. Only saw AV play twice but there was no one on that team deserving of a first team or even second team nod. Check the scores versus SRV, Cal and even Monte Vista. Santich is a great spot up shooter, but there's a reason Gerhart had to be on the floor every minute of every contested game.

Ok, but Adams was not even the mvp of her own team. Moulton's numbers were better on scoring, assists, steals - and more than double on rebounds.

Where are you getting these stats from? Did the American Coaches update Maxpreps stats for every American game?

It is actually California, not American. And yes, their stats are all on Maxpreps.

Oops I mean California HS. I guess if the stats are very close in comparison for Moulton and Adams, then context of stats would have to come in to play also. They are both great players.

From what I've heard Adams was hobbled earlier with a knee injury or something like that. Maxpreps lists Moulton as played one more game that Adams so gives validity to that. This is a league award not an every team you play award so it could be that in league, Adams was healthy and outshined Moulton down the stretch in league. When you have two great players it's not a big deal. Maybe Moulton held it down while Adams was hobbled before league and when league started Adams returned the favor. The stat diff is so minor like 17.0 vs 16.8 on points a game. Assists are a dead heat but rebounds Moulton easily wins that. But those stats don't account for the intangibles and if you score the same and assist the same and win the intangibles that will outweigh not winning at rebounds. But anyway I'm sure contrary to our posts those two team mates love each other and support each other.

And only the other EBAL coaches vote, and some of them only played Cal once, such as Livermore, Granada, Foothill & Dublin. One good game or 2 against them could impress a coach to vote for them. But the coaches don’t only look at stats. They know who they had to prepare for and who caused them problems.

I wish this were true ... my experience in all-league meetings is that many coaches know their own teams and not much else. A lot of coaches don't scout much, and if they do, they look at one tape. Then there's the game they play against the girl ...

And sometimes they vote for one girl because they think it will help one of their players get a spot. Or they don't like the coach. Or, in most cases of illogical voting, they've spent little or no time preparing for the meeting and just want to go home.

It's sad, but all-league teams seldom, in my experience, actually reflect the best players in the league in the proper order. It's too bad kids and parents put so much stock in them because their relation to reality is often questionable.
