I don't know.... One Article is vague and allegations seem more on character yet supporters came out to dispute it. (I couldn't read the other article). In this day and age coaching is nearly impossible at hs level. The peanut gallery is larger and schools are often little support. More so on the public side.

EL CERRITO – One of the East Bay’s best teams is forfeiting its first six games of the season.
El Cerrito played several ineligible student-athletes during its first half-dozen games, according to an email from principal Malcolm Norrington that sources provided to the Bay Area News Group.
As a result, the Gauchos are vacating wins against Amador Valley, Monterey Trail-Elk Grove, Oakland Tech, Campolindo and St. Mary’s-Berkeley. El Cerrito had also lost to De La Salle.
“The issue originated from a prior CIF: NCS bylaw 202 ruling regarding student ineligibility, which prompted a comprehensive review of the current varsity football roster,” Norrington’s email, dated to Friday, read. “Upon further review, it was determined that certain players were ineligible to participate in the games listed above.”
Norrington’s email concluded by saying that the school is “collaborating with district personnel to address these concerns and improve our enrollment procedures to prevent future occurrences.”
The email did not specify how many ineligible players participated in games.

Having ineligible players
Mistakes in verifying eligible players can be made but rarely does a genuine mistake involve more than one player. Note: mistakes carry the same penalty as blatant action. However, the administrative leave action might suggest a greater malfeasance. In some other cases of forfeits, it was the coach who disclosed the error. It does not sound like the case in this situation.
I'm assuming eligibility from a "move" to that school and not sitting out the appropriate period?
Just a thought here…their QB, Johnny Craft, is at his third school in 4 years. He started at Valley Christian, made his way to James Logan and is now at EC. He played immediately after transferring. The CIF clearly states a sit out period after the first transfer followed by a 365-Day sit out period after the second transfer. The kid has played in all games at all three schools.
The exception to the rule is in the case of a FULL family move meaning cases when a student-athlete is sent off to live with a relative do not apply.
I imagine that such a case may be the reason for the 5 vacated wins and Rincon’s imminent firing.

I heard from a fellow coach they had several players using the same address in Richmond, none of them actually lived there, the implication was none of them actually live in district

Transfer that happened by chance to magically land in the EC district ? I was fooled for sure
Was wondering how EC got so good. I mean, they’re generally very competitive in their enrollment group, but they aren’t good enough to be scheduling a DLS level team under normal circumstances for them

I hate to say this but the honest truth is parents will hide behind reality simply based on the fact that the school will not come out and publicly say who the perpetrators were and where they actually live / where the reported to live. They know the truth but its all smoke and mirrors until the get aired out publicly. I feel for the Principal, I know he's done the foot work to find out what's going. He doesn't deserve the slander.
Honestly, I hate what High School sports have become some times. A lot of these high profile coaches can only coach Uber-talented players and would not win half as much as they do without the shady shit they do in order to recruit kids. I remember a conversation I had with a coach (who oddly enough still coaches within the WCCUSD) who shared his hate for the CIF saying they need to stay out of the business of student-athletes.

A source tells ABC7 News that some El Cerrito High School football players lived outside the district and in at least one case fake documentation to enroll in school was given. But parents and students are furious after their record was wiped out.
side note on the principal in question.... he was an actor in the movie Boyz n the Hood.
Not surprised to see this. I was at a local tavern in El Sobrante and two guys were speaking on this and we all know many public schools do this nationwide. But from what I took from their convo is wow make it so obvious why don’t ya.
If you break the rules that blatantly , it seems like this penalty is the right one. I feel bad for all of the kids that are in the program that weren't part of the rule breaking though.
The opening sentence of the article notes that EC self reported the illegible players to the NCS section. I thought, OK, maybe Rincon just made a mistake. But then I remembered and it was also disclosed in this article that it was the school administrator who reported the violations and not Rincon himself. In fact, Rincon was placed on administrative leave.
I hope EC can get their program straightened out for the good of the kids in the programs the El Cerritos community.

Penalty is not harsh enough if you ask me. 3 year play off ban and give every kid currently in the program who was not involved one free trip out of town and to another school. Make sure the school doesn’t allow it to happen again
Making the principal the fall guy isn’t a good look either, though I empathize with the players and parents.
Getting rid of the coach solves the problem. Why should kids have to go through the hassle and logistics of moving to another school.
