Who wins this contest and why? I'm going with the underdog in this one. I see Elk Grove coming away with the "W" because of their defense. Something tells me this is going to be a defensive game. And I believe EG will hold Folsom to under 30 points which will not be enough to beat EG on Saturday night. Thoughts?

Based on what I saw in Elk Grove this part weekend, I would say that is a VERY good pick. However, the Bulldogs seem to keep finding a way to win despite the loss of all those starters from last year's state title team.

I'm on the fence with this one- But I am going with Folsom in a barn burner.

God Bless.

Interesting that Calpreps projection has Elk Grove 33-Folsom 31. Especially when you take Folsom's current winning streak into consideration. It has been quite awhile since the Bulldogs were underdogs (last DLS game). This close of game could be decided on which coach's game plan and game time adjustments are better. For this reason-Folsom wins 30-27!

It's hard to pick against Folsom, especially in section, until they finally prove that they can lose again.

That said, I've been saying all season that they are quite beatable. I definitely believe that Elk Grove can do it. However, they are going to have to play really well in order to pull it off. A 'B' game might not get it done. Folsom is a very confident bunch and extremely resilient.

Like last week, Elk Grove will have the most impactful player on the field. But Jake Jeffrey is an x-factor that can make a big difference. If he can play like he did last week, the Herd will be in trouble. They did a pretty good job on Ian Book last week, so they certainly have the ability to keep Jeffrey in check.

Since early in the Season I've felt that Elk Grove was the best team in the Section - Still do!

My understanding is the game will be played at Sac State correct? No blue turf involved...

Rumor has it that Pete Morelli (former principal at St. Mary's-Stockton) and his crew have been demoted by the NFL and his team will be the refs for the Elk Grove vs Folsom game.
Good luck Bulldogs! LOL!

Great points Pete! It will be a close one, but to be the champs, you gotta beat the champs!

Dogs all the way.

Rodney Pete ....I think you may be a little slow or uninformed. We all know the game is at Sac State. Since your new ill help you out. The Bella post is a jab at an unnamed poster .LOL

Totally agree TFB...you have to beat the best to be the best and Folsom has been the best the past few years. I seriously think that changes on Saturday night though. I like to use "the cream always rises to the top". I have EG rising above your boys from Folsom by three points in this contest.

Last weekend was my first chance to see Elk Grove live. Boy was I impressed. I think Elk Grove has a legit shot to pull it off.

God bless.

I agree with Rodney. I think this could be the herds year. St Mary's really put a scare in the bulldogs and to be honest they are a year away from being really good. Just seems like Folsom is vulnerable.

The team that plays the best defense will win. Folsom had a difficult time with St. Mary's running game last week. Elk Grove's run game is superior to St. Mary's (I have no idea what the stats are, nor do I really care. I've seen both Elk Grove (two weeks ago) and St. Mary's (last week) play live and the OL and RB's are better for Elk Grove. St. Mary's is good, make no mistake about it. Elk Grove is better, is the only point). With that said, when they had to, Folsom's defense got the stops they needed at the end of the game and got the job done.

Elk Grove's defense is good, no doubt about it. They have faced spread teams and done well. Merced is a spread team and Elk Grove won in dominating fashion in the second round of the playoffs. However, as we all know, Merced is not Folsom. The thing that would worry me regarding Elk Grove's defense is if they put in a "new defense" to try and stop Folsom, as they did a few years ago when these two teams met in the section finals for DII. Elk Grove needs to stick to their hard-hitting, aggressive, attack-style defense if they are going to win...that is the defense that they have created and excelled with and it would be incredibly difficult for the Elk Grove boys to perform in a defense that dropped 8 defenders into zone coverage every down.

This should be a great high school football game. Both offenses will be able to score points, in my opinion. The saying, "defense wins championships" always applies, but it is especially applicable in this game.

I am just excited for this match up. I believe this is what everyone wanted to see.

God bless.

What happened to G61???
In his words: Folsom will win by 150. It is because we have a higher standard of living here. Plus Folsom is NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah that dude killed it when he talked about the City of Stockton. That sh!t was funnier then Eddie Murphy in Beverly Hills Cops. Priceless!

I couldn't say it better Macallan. The Elk Grove defense will be the difference in this game. I see EG holding on to a one score win. Maybe the last drive of the game.

Folsom wins handily. EG won't be able to stop Folsom. Folsom will give up points but will get stops against EG. EG runs the ball as well as anybody, but the reason SM was able to run the ball was because of a very potent passing attack. EG does not have a potent enough passing attack to keep Folsom from stacking the box and stopping the run. Folsom has the athletes (and the beef) to stop the run when they load up the box.

Sounds good. We shall see.

I think it should be streamed. NFHS deal is to broadcast every section final and why would they give up the marquee game?

They should be advertising it more

Yes, it does. I thought Elk Grove was going to win this but am happy Folsom ended up pulling it out. Did anybody else see the long bomb that Folsom's Jeffries threw that seemed to bounce out of the receiver's hands into the defender's hands near the end? I thought maybe the receiver was trying to balance himself and lost it trying to make a Td. instead of concentrating on making the catch first. Did anyone else see it better than me that could answer that?

Of course not. Don't be silly. DLS lost an out-of-state game against a highly ranked team. DLS goes, no questions. Folsom's not as good as last year's team.
