Good game here at Cal Berkeley. Punahoe stuffing DO run game between tackles but not stopping DO pass game. DO has two picks. Punahoe QB is a stud but DO doing a good job pressuring him and keeping him contained on scrambles. Pretty evenly matched so far despite the score.

I watched the game via stream. No disrespect to Punahou, but Del Oro choked that game away. Up 15 - 0 late in the 3rd QTR, you gotta close that game out. I thought they did Punahou a big favor by stubbornly running between the tackles when it simply wasn't working most the night. They had an advantage in the passing game with their receivers and they didn't go to it enough. I love Coach Taylor and think he's one of the best in the area, but there wasn't a lot of imagination going on offensively. The defense played well, but wore down late.

Del Oro doesn't lose 2 touchdown leads very often. Now they head back home and get Bellarmine, which cruised over Franklin tonight.

I'm too tired and lazy after sitting high on the 30-yard line of the PG (Pacific Grove) Watsonville game so, instead of logging out and searching calpreps, who what or when da heck is Punahoe? Muds

Who won this? Sac Bee and calpreps has Del Oro winning 22-15, not Punahoe.

I had watched Punahoe on film before the game and new they were going to be a tough match up. Seemed like a physical team.

I didn't think they were all that good. Their defense was solid, but that's about it. Their offense was non-existent most the game. They did nothing until back-to-back drives at the end of the 3rd and beginning of the 4th. The game winning score was aided by a INT return to around the Del Oro 10.

Another coaching decision that I didn't understand was opting to go for 2 once they went up 15-0. Kicking the XP forces Punahou to go for 2 twice in order to tie the game. As it were, they only had to do it once and they converted. Odd are that they don't convert both and Del Oro likely would have been sitting on a 16-14 lead late in the game and wouldn't have thrown the INT with around 1 minute to play.

I know the Golden Eagles already failed on a PAT earlier in the game, but they also kicked a short FG that was the equivalent of an XP -- so you at least got to try it, especially since the short yardage offense wasn't fairing very well.

DO D payed very well most of the game. There was some fatigue in DO D as evidenced in Punahoe's last two drives and it showed as Punahoe's RB #34 was getting to the secondary on most of his runs. DO D for the most part sealed off the edges containing the QB who was no slouch running the ball. Few pass coverage break downs also by DO D that led to the last Punahoe score.

DO O struggled to run between the tackles against the rather large Punahoe D-line. Punahoe was playing a 5-2 defense which was tough to run against but DO burned them on a number of pass plays. The middle was open most of the night that I thought DO should have exploited more. DO's Jr QB Smartt played well throwing the ball pretty good with just one fatal mistake at the end otherwise he was making good decisions and not trying to force the ball under pressure.

I see a lot of good to build from. Bellarmine should be a great game but DO will have to deal with speed which the struggle with.

Overall DO is improved over last year and expect them to do well in league. I have mixed thoughts seeing them play the Green Machine deep into the season but will expose their weaknesses they can work on before post-season.

It's Punahou, ranked #3 in Hawaii at the moment, behind Mililani and St. Louis. St. Louis will probably move to #1 this week with Punahou #2.

Punahou is the high school the dying wife of the character played by George Clooney in the movie "The Decendants" went to school. There is a scene that has a picture of his wife in a graduation picture with the caption of the school name on the picture. I know...kind of an out of there comment - but some related trivia - plus I just watched a rerun of the movie and noticed it.
