Anybody in the Sac area know much about Bill Benford, the new coach at Folsom Lake? Starting a new JC program in a pretty tough JC conference(Big 8) should be interesting. Any idea what Sac area players may be going his way or is it just too soon to tell for a JC program?

Bill is both a very good coach and a great person. He has a solid pedigree of coaching including several years as head varsity coach at CBS. He has coached with me in the Pharaohs organization back in the day and a couple of years ago with the wildcats elite program. Any unsigned senior would be doing themselves a favor by going to FLC. He has an excellent asst. coach in George Hernandez as well. They will do very well there in the coming years. I look forward to watching them.

Had to look up their record,, 2-19. I’ve watched a lot of Sac hoops this year and have never seen one of the coaches at a game... Most of the other local JC coaches have at least been seen trolling around games. Coach J this is not AAU or CBHS, he needs to go out and recruit him some players or the nice gym and campus won’t do him any good.
I have been watching sac hoops for 20 years. I have almost never seen sac city or arc head coaches at games. Sierra coach here and there. I have seen benford out 3-4 times this year. I wouldn’t judge a coach in the first year of the programs history. If they are awful next year then there might be something there.
It will take time. I've also been watching hoops for well over 20 years in Sac and never see any JC guys at games. Folsom Lake baseball team is a legit state contender though. They seem to have figured that out quickly. Beautiful facilities.
I was just more surprised that they were suiting up 5 guys for the last 2 weeks! How does that happen? They only carried 10 on the roster to start the year for some reason and then had 2 or 3 ineligible, 1 quit, and 1 injury and there you go... The record's not surprising for a first year program in a tough JC conference like the Big 8. I have a possible vested interest in this program so I hope it works out for him. Beautiful campus and facilities. I wish Benford the best!

Benford is a good dude and coach. Programs are not built overnight and he will get his program winning in due time. The notion that JC coaches don't attend games is not true!
To date, Bill Benford at FLC and Jon James at CRC have been to 3 of my team's games this season. Coaches from Delta and Yuba have also been to a game. JC coaches attend high school games! Keep in mind, JC coaches are not only coaching their current team, but they are also out recruiting players who will help improve their program in the future.
