At least CCS was right and ruled no extra A league in PCAL division which would have watered down one A league.

The false narrative is that Gab coaches prefer their kids to NOT play multiple sports so they can form a powerhouse football program while a school like Carmel suffers in developing a football program because kids are forced to play multiple sports.

I agree. I don’t think any Gabilan coaches are telling their kids not to play multiple sports. And I’m a Carmel supporter.

I don’t think it’s a false narrative. I think it’s a matter of perspective and the fact that schools with larger populations tend to have fewer multi-sport athletes. In my experience larger schools have so many more kids vying for so few spots on teams that more kids tend to pick a favorite sport or two where they have a chance to make the team and play. In smaller schools whoever tries out often ends up on the roster and the better athletes can play a different sport year round. My last 2 years of High School I played football, basketball and both ran track and played baseball in the Spring season, sometimes having events and games on the same afternoon!

I agree that there aren’t coaches that mandate a kid only play their sport year- round. The best athletes can still play three sports throughout the year and often do at large schools. It’s just not as common at Salinas as it is at Carmel or King City.

False. The majority of our student-athletes that play football at Salinas play 2-3 sports and it is highly encouraged that they play 3. Played 3 myself. They have 12 opportunities to play sports in high school and they are encouraged to use them all here. Period.

Carmel forced up to PCAL Gab and increases from 7 to 9 team division watering down the strength of the division. Now will only have 2 non league slots in a season.

Not sure if its been mentioned but I believe CCS is putting together a committee to consider new methods of determining A leagues. I agree there are no more than 4 A leagues but using the current system, if you're an A league now you will stay an A league and so on down the line. This would free up more At-Large berths if the calculation calibrates leagues correctly.

Another way to free up At- Larges (and this is not a popular method) is to "expand" the playoff field. I propose only a slight change that would basically add 4 spots. The OPEN division should be the 4 TOP SEEDS in the playoffs, then seed DIV 1 - 5 with 8 teams each for a total of 44 teams. It helps alleviate the "Separate the privates" crowd noise. It would not change the number of games currently played either.

Someone would have to convince CCS since expansion is not a popular sentiment.

It is simply beyond me how 6 (or 7) could have voted for the PCAL to have two A leagues. Incredible. Political??? As shown on this Board it is virtually impossible to find 12 teams in the PCAL that could be considered A league caliber. Not sure but seems like the mighty Mt. Hamilton league would no longer be the the lowest rated A league in the PCAL if the PCAL was granted a second A league.

well, don't they have 4 divisions, so that 4 votes right there.
