I think he should be in conversations for National Player of the Year. Has the combination of monster stats on a nationally ranked team and is bound for major college football

Wasn't he the National Player of the Year as a Jr? I'm going out on a limb and saying he competes day 1 for the starting job at Wash. Not sold on Miles and Browning is Petersons recruit.

I believe he was in the conversation. He got runner up to Allen, Texas Kyler Murray.

Miles does suck. Browning will dazzle. He aint going to be holding a clipboard. Fundamentally he's light years ahead of most college QB's today. Troy Taylor isn't exactly the average HS coach.

I like Browning and think he's an excellent HS QB, but I'm a little more skeptical of his prospects at the next level

Washington has 2 redshirt sophomores that were both 4*/ Elite 11 QBs from 2011 -- neither of them are going to back down from a "short" freshman, with gaudy #'s, put up in a system where the 2 previous guys had comparable stats (one of which was national POY and is now a backup at Cal Poly)

Again, I like Browning and am not meaning to take a shot -- I just think starting for a Pac12 team is a big jump for any HS QB

Personally, I think Travis Waller from Servite might have a slightly better opportunity to start for UO next year.

I don't think Lockie is the answer and I don't know much about Mahalak other than he just started at MC 1 year

Mahalak could have started three years but they had a guy named Goff ahead of him that will be a first round pick next year. Lockie is more of a guy who will manage the offense and not win a game. Waller is a little like MarIota where he can make plays with his arm and feet. They red-shirted Mariota but I think Waller comes in and plays with a package of plays with Lockie running things until Waller establishes himself.

Regarding Browning, Peterson will run his offense which will be good for Browning. He's not a running guy and speed of the game will be a real transition for him. He has good tools but the only times I've seen him struggle were against fast defenses like De La Salle and Grant. I'm sure he will adjust.

Goff did it from Marin Catholic to CAL and beat out a big time 5 star /elite 11 guy (KLINE). That stuff doesn't mean much to me. I'm not saying the other guys are going to back down either. At some level this stuff starts to become who does the head coach "gel" with the most. Who is an extension of me out on the field? Browning will be that guy. I mean Ohio State is on QB #3 and this guy led them to the National Title game. All of these kids are good and most are great. Its that competitive at this level. Its the person who makes the most of their opportunity. Some guys are gamers and some are practice players.

I agree about Oregon. No way is Lockie the guy. Honestly I have no idea why he chose Oregon. Doesn't seem like a good fit. The kid from Marin Catholic is a stud. Better athlete, better arm, and bigger.

Waller has a long way to go with his delivery. He sure can run but that delivery is un-orthodox and very slow. That being said, I believe Mariotta had a funky delivery when he arrived in Eugene too.

I agree re Waller but he's such a good athlete and still young that he should adapt.

Don't forget about KJ Carta-Samuels. Redshirted this year. Never got to showcase his stuff in high school because of the Bells offense, but he can flat out play. Wouldn't surprise me to see him win the starting job next season. Got an absolute cannon and can run as well.

One advantage for Browning entering his freshman year is that he is already enrolled at UW and will be able to get a head start at Spring practice. Also, unlike most others, he has been tutored by a former PAC-10 and NFL QB since he was 11 or 12 years old. Whether or not he succeeds, he is surely prepared for the challenge.

I agree Locke is not on the same level as Mahalak or Waller. Mariotta red shirted coming in, learned and then proved he was the best guy. The Mahalak kid has a few advantages over Waller. He has a better arm no question, had better coaching coming into UO, and has a year of learning the system under Mariotta. Waller will be behind mentally, and still has to prove his stroke can be a consistent one. If Mahalak wins the job, I see Waller being a freak athlete who needs to be on the field at WR.

A great and deserving honor.A perfect capper on an outstanding high school career.Congratulations to him and the entire Folsom football family. An unforgettable season all the way around.

Thunder- Absolutely agree. Pretty hard to beat that counseling and programming along the way. And one would have to assume he was highly encouraged to enroll early. You do that for one reason.

Browning will start at Washington next year. That is the whole point of him enrolling early. Look for Washington to be very exciting next year with Browning and Chris Peterson!

Don't forget Mahalek is a pretty damn good WR also. Caught a lot of passes from Goff while at MC. Lots of options to say the least and a good problem to have

G61- I agree with you. You don't enroll early to redshirt or hold a clipboard. He was named CAL HI POY as well.

Ya it should be interesting next year. If Washington is decent at all, it should make the PAC 12 one of the premier conferences.

I think that the Pac12 is already one of the premier conferences. Nothing new here.

To us, yes. But to all the "east coasties" and "sec eliters" probably not.

Go Washington!

Kid throws 91 TD's in a season, no brainier 1st team AA. Washington and Oregon QB situations will be some of the most interesting positional battles in the country, especially for us NorCal guys. Don't count Locke out at Oregon, he's solid but not spectacular, and has been the #2 there for some time. Remember he beat out a more highly recruited player in his recruiting class, Jake Rodrigues who has since transferred, and Waller and the MC kid are not world beaters with their arms, just better athletes. Browning will get every opportunity to start, all he's gotta do know is live up to half of the hype.

Lockie will only be the starter if Mahalak and Waller dont impress the coaches. He really won the back up role by default. Rodrigues had battled injuries the first couple of years in Eugene and he had just gotten healthy in the spring. Lockie and Rodrigues struggled in the spring and the coaches wouldnt name a back up so Rodrigues transfered. Rumor was Mahalak was struggling a little with the playbook. Waller is enrolling early so if he picks up the playbook quickly he could be in the conversation. I think he will end up redshirting. The job is there for Mahalak to take but if he cant do it I expect them to go with Lockie and allow Waller to develop with another year.
In Washington, it will be interesting. Seems like they were trying to take the job away from Miles in the beginning. He actually had decent numbers this year. Just because Browning enrolled early doesnt mean he will win the job. He definitely will compete though. With Williams transfering it leaves the door open for the back up job too. I think Carta-Samuels will just be too far behind to ever beat out Browning. Wouldnt be shocked if he eventually transfers. Miles doesnt have much of a ceiling. He has a weak arm and slow release but he was efficient and didnt turn the ball over. Those are two things Peterson has always favored in selecting his QB. I think they give the job to Miles and Browning will be the back up and if Miles slips up one bit Browning will take over.
