Folsom's Jake Browning article in the bee

Like ShaqT, Jake has the potential to be playing Sundays...

FWIW, I watched the Miami-Jacksonville game on Sunday and James Sample from Grant Union got his first NFL start at Safety. He played pretty well. Shaq recorded his first official tackles this week too.

As for Jake, I think he's got a great shot at playing on Sunday's too. I hope UW can build up the talent around him so he can develop to his full potential.

Agreed with everyone. He looks great. If he can look as good as Goff (Cal) does someday, he will be playing on Sundays!

Goff struggled as a freshman, due to an awful offensive line. It seems like Jake may be in a better position for success from the start.

Either way, it will be fun!

Even though we disagree on a lot of stuff on this board I think its safe to say we are blessed to be in an area where we get to see some incredible athletes compete at the HS level. And after watching Browning play in HS I'm really not surprised by his early success. He's got that it factor.

He sure does. I was unsure how long it would take him at the D1 level to display it, but I am happy he is so early. The main thing is he's getting the opportunity in his first year. Awesome!

Ditto, it's great to see that the kid earned the QB gig and is playing at a high level.

With so much football talent in the Sacramento region it's kind of sad that Sac State has not moved up the ranks into the FBS. The region has the fan base and talent to compete in the Mountain West.

Sac St. actually had a decent year last season. They've finally been landing some good local talent the past couple recruiting classes (Joey Banks, Malcolm Thomas, Dre Terrell, Tyler Meteer, Jabarri Johnson) so we'll see if that can take them to the next level. Not looking too good so far this season, though. They're still going through a bit of a coaching transition. That and the Big Sky is probably the best league in the FCS.

That would be awesome to see Sac State in the Mountain West sometime. We can wish right...

I've watched most of all three UW games and its been really cool to watch a young team develop. Each week they've gotten better. And Petersen is scrambling, making adjustments to personnel left and right to see who can step in. Three true freshmen played on the O-line this past week! Thats crazy.
I think the kid from Sacred Heart Prep got some playing time, too. Ben Burr-Kirven (sp?) -- he's clearly the real deal.

All that being said, I'd be really surprised if they are close at the end. I hope so, but going from Utah St, and Sac St. to a revamped Cal is a big step. A healthy UW secondary (including their star Buddha Baker) is required to have a shot.

@ G61
Definitely wishful thinking but would be great for the community. It would also attract more of the top tier talent in the region.

@Thunder
Glad to see them landing local talent!

I haven't had a chance to catch Browning yet. Hope to catch him this weekend. Starting qb as a true freshman is an amazing accomplishment!

Is that where that kid is playing at now? I watched him play in the state title game. He's a beast of a player.

Yes, he is at UW. They are a young, but talented team. They are very fun to watch.

Chris Peterson is allowing Browning some more freedom to throw down field lately, which has been a treat to watch.
