John Devine blogs HS Football season is on pending approval. Season Start Sept 10 with playoffs top be held and no state tourney. This will create issues with teams that start in August. On Governor to approve or not.

Nothing has been decided yet on whether fans will be allowed to attend high school sports in the fall. The good news is time is on our side. We still have roughly 90 days before a potential event.

Practice to start Aug 7

From what I saw on Twitter the CIF has made no such proposal, however, I am sure they are looking at a number of possibilities, just like everywhere else. As much as it kills me to say this, I think fall sports is a long shot. Also, the teacher unions play a pivotal role in all of this. They are very much in the drivers seat.

Johnny - “Mom I really want to play football.”

Dad - “Yeah honey. Johnny wants to man up. Besides how are you going to have social distancing around school? He’s as likely to get sick standing by his locker as he is in practice.”

Mom - “Show me the case numbers for the areas where the schools he will play against. Like Soledad or North Salinas. When those numbers come down then we can consider him playing.”

For parents it won’t be just about whether it is safe for Johnny to go to school or practice (although those issues will be a bridge to far for some families) parents will also be evaluating the risk when Johnny lines up against a kid from an area with much higher case counts than where they live. (89% of the cases in Monterey County are in the Salinas area.) Does Mom want to watch the bus drive off to a game in North Salinas wondering if her kid is going to come back sick?

The NFHS made some suggested guidelines for it's individual members to follow. Sorry I don't have the link but it's a good reference point to view if you have time to go to their website.

I still think it is too early to tell either way if there is going to be a season. But this is some of the first positive news I have seen about a season. Here is a link to the blog from John Devine.

Streak I am sorry in advance if this link is not allowed, not all that familiar with copyright laws on websites and blogs.

Posting links is the best way to go. Posting just the text is an issue.

I think the reports put out yesterday were premature. I think there is a roadmap emerging, but only a few Northern Section schools have started the car
