Grant Football

It’s been mentioned in this thread a couple times now, but which kids has Casey Taylor “recruited” away from Grant?

Casey is recruiting all over town. I know of some kids who have moved
From what I've seen, with the right coach/administration it wouldnt be difficult for a resurgence at Grant. And if we really look at things closely, they lost out on 4 game changing rb/athletes that would have kept the program buzzing. Hardy ('14; Inderkum), Dotson('16; Antelope), Simmons ('17; Capital Christian), Ross ('18; Capital Christian) were all big time All City players. It could be argued that these four young men would have faired much better at Grant than they did at the schools they chose to attend. For three of these dynamic players ended up at community colleges while one is currently playing well at Sac State. Hardy was Prime Time! He was the missing weapon on that 2014 Pacer team. People around the country would have known his name, had he attended Grant. Dotson would have ran for close to 3k yards at Grant. And Simmons and Ross would have taken the City by storm.
With these guys at the running back position, Grant never turns to the spread and doesn't lose a step. IMO, if they would have attended Grant, they'd all be playing FBS football right now.

No disrespect to Capital and Inderkum, but they aren't showcase schools. Grant is. Grant produces running backs, lineman, and athletes. In the same way that Folsom produces QBs.

I will also say that my trip there last season was pretty cool. The passion by the Grant fans was as good as any I've seen albeit some of it was showing due to frustration but I agree, having a strong Grant program is better for Sac football. Grant has a long road ahead and I just hope they can hold on to their kids and not see them go elsewhere so they can regain their strength.

That may be true, but they aren’t coming from Grant and its not a reason for Grants recent downturn. Since that’s the topic of this thread, I guess that’s my point.

Here I’ll help clear up some things the coaching problem at grant has always been a thing some of these teams had the talent and size to compete for a state title. They lose talent to other schools as well.

Coach AL stated in a interview that 6 starters chose not to return to the program they pulled up a lot of sophomores so what you are seeing this year is a really young and inexperienced team. Grant has the best youth program in the area. Their fix is simple but who’s gonna be the guy that fires a stage champion coach? The fans wanted a change a decade ago you can only run sweep right, double fades for so long. Schools in the area in benefitting from grant being down. Grants still the big ticket in Sacramento I’ve seen this years Folsom team. They are nothing but a well coached grant team grant will put put that type of players most years and double the size on good years. When I watch Folsom all I see is inderkum running the spread. And some of inderkums best players in their school history are from the grant area

The difference between Inderkum is discipline which is instilled from the HC. I applaud Coach Al has he has had some good teams. For an inner city team with more at risk kids, Inderkum players are all in and it shows week after week. They are a fun outfit to watch, I really think they have a shot at D1 title.

Don’t compare inderkum to grant. Grant can go play in d3 dominate then lose to a ark team when it matters too. Grant has expectations to live to we demand good football. Put a respectable coach at grant and they’ll be back on top in 2 years. These same kids at Folsom thats brought end grow up around the school most areas in Sacramento wont produce the size that grant will have. Grant will most likely go winless in the sfl and they have 2 d1 players still. And this young team will be a lot better when they’re seniors there’s a lot of jv players that had to be moved up. The freshmen on the jv team never lost in the youth program. As much as people or certain poster want to believe that the talent is dried up clearly don’t pay attention to youth football. Look at Folsom they lost a coaching staff and now they’re struggling with sfl teams they struggled with Whitney big time . Grants a coaching staff away from getting what we all want to see a great grant team vs de la salle.

Coach Peters is your coach. If I was a part of the Grant football community I would push for this man. He'd be great at Grant with all that talent. He'll take those sophomores and win the SFL championship with an undefeated record.

[QUOTE="SpeedCity51, If people are mad at a coach for not preparing their kids for academic coursework then they better damn well “have that same energy” for their kid’s teachers, counselors, school faculty, and perhaps most importantly that person in the mirror.[/QUOTE]

This has indeed happened.

Coach Peters is as Oakland as it gets I don’t see why he would want to move to Sacramento? He’s been invested in Oakland for a long time and has a great situation there, not sure what would lure him to Sacramento not like there is money to be made in HS coaching in California public school

Cool! So has every school employee more responsible (principal, vice principal, every counselor that was assigned to a football player, every teacher that taught a football player) been let go or forced out yet? If not, why should they start with the football coach?

If you want to fire the guy for football reasons, then be my guest. But to bring in academics in an attempt to pile on and make this look like it’s not just about wins and losses is really lame.

@SpeedCity51 we started seeing an influx of Grant Pacer's going to college during the years that Coach Harris came on the scene.

He was a major proponent of academic enrichment. Even the Poly kids started going to college in record numbers.
I could be wrong but I was told the Onterrio Smith Jr. is playing at Folsom on the Frosh squad??? If so, does that go along with your prior thoughts??

There's been a few former Pacer Alum offspring playing at various schools in the SFL....smart choices

Agree Coach Peters is a die-hard "Town" guy. However, I would love to see his reaction if Grant approached him. Mind you, his son as well as Beast-mode (Marcus's cousin) has all the money he would need if he wanted to make that move. I'm sure Coach Peters doesn't do this for the cheez. We all know a high school coaching stipend is a negative after the countless hours coaches spend on a yearly basis. So would moving to Sac really be a financial issue? I highly doubt it. But then again, maybe coach Peters is too Oakland and don't have the desire to coach another community with the make-up of Oakland. All I can say if I'm the Pacers AD I'm calling coach Carter to get the plug for Coach Peters. It's time for a new regime in Pacer land. New blood will do that program wonders.

Its about the program! Academics and athletics.....

I'm not sure how much you know about Grant or if you've ever seen the inner workings of a top flight program (H.S/college). A lot of top flight H.S coaches run their football programs like a college program... That way when the kids get to college they are prepared academically and athletically.

The program itself has year around...mandatory tutoring, study hall, S.A.T/A.C.T training, weightlifting, skills training, peer counseling, gang intervention, etc. The coach is the one who implements this program. This is how certain programs become factories. They offer prospects a can't lose path to college. If you adhere to the program, you will get a scholarship!
I've seen programs like this with my own two eyes. So I know that they exist.

Parents are looking for this type of program! Especially fathers and uncles who played collegiately/professionally and know that they exist.

As I stated in an earlier post, Grant hired a coach by the name of Reggie Harris. He began implementing the program that I speak of above. He saw Grant as a hotbed for HS talent, so he having worked at programs similar to Grant, brought a new culture that the Pacers hadn't seen before.

When he came on the scene, a ton of kids began going to college, the Pacers started playing in showcase games, kids started getting national recognition, several kids became H.S All-Americans, etc. As a result, Sac was put on the map!

It's possible that the current AD at Grant has aspirations of becoming the next head coach himself! Lol. From the looks of his resume, he is co-head coach, a teacher, and AD. He's also an alummi of Grant with championships as a player and coach.

I'm not sure if the administration would go in that direction, but his resume speaks of someone with aspirations of becoming the next head coach.

Peters is a very very good coach. But I’ll do one better. If we’re going pipe dream hell I’d lure Casey Taylor. Any perceived or reality of Capital Christian taking talent ends and talk about a guy who can win in the SFL and knows the ins and out. Dude is a winner and will play anyone anywhere. That would be the slam dunk.

Hahahaha Man I personally would like to see Harris, AG, Pacer80 etc back on the sideline together. We saw 4 nationally ranked teams during that run. Not sure if them getting back together is even possible though.

Peter's is good in Oakland. And Taylor has a lot to prove at Capitol.

I think in the end it doesn’t matter who it is if they get back to winning, if that’s possible.
Like others have said a winning Grant program is good! I’m old school, sad to see some blue bloods like the Grants, Oak Groves, NU, LB Poly, Loyola etc. struggle.

I heard a rumor that after the loss to Del Oro, more kids have quit the Grant team for the last two games. This is just word of mouth I do not know if it is true or not. Can anyone confirm or deny?

Well according to this clip Omar Norman-Lott has quit the Grant Pacers....He is one of their most talented...
Who else has bailed?

Pooh Peters ain't leaving West Oakland and you need to forget about Casey Taylor.

The right guy for the job is likely not yet a big name. There are great coaches out there that aren't house hold names yet. Case and point, look at Ryan Partridge at Liberty. Dude was a .500 coach at Livermore. Goes to Liberty where there is more support, larger enrollment and better talent and within two years he is a state champion with a top 5-10 team in Northern California.

Grant has athletes that will make a decent coach look better than he is. Find some young, innovative guy who can relate to the community while holding the kids accountable. Someone who may be doing wonders at a school with lackluster talent.

Yep, This time but it is better to fact check things before just throwing them to the wind...IMHO....
Well i was trying to get confirmation. If you look at my original post i asked for confirmation. So i was not throwing facts out there for example, " GRANT PLAYERS QUIT! " I had heard some information and was trying to get it clarified.

That is my point.....pretty touchy subject.....get confirmation before putting it out on the waiver wire......thats how bad rumors get started....

touchy subject? how so? Asking if kids have quit is not touchy in my opinion.

Innuendo

How about....I have heard numerous Whitney players have left the program bc they went 0-10 and do not like the new coach.....still struggling to win in the SFL.....yep I have heard it many times but I am not out here slinging it....Grants program will turn around and so will Whitneys...

The mark of a great leader is to leave the program better than it was when you started. Al has reduced Grant to the same 2-8 program that he inherited almost 30 years ago. IMO, this has been a very selfish act on his part.

He had a window between 2008-2014 to leave the program whole and healthy. That window has closed. He thinks that Grant will suffer without him. The issue is, it is now suffering with him. He has depleted it of all of its resources.

The fans boycotted, the alumni stopped showing up, and the kids keep walking away.

He should not be able to walk away when he's ready. The administration has the tough responsibility of ending his reign this season. Throw him a nice retirement party! Lol

Enough with all of the gimmicks! The pseudo spread, making all of your long time coaches re-interview, seeking sympathy from the SacBee.

Pacer4Life doesnt mean coach for life! Hahaha

Whitney is still in trouble, they can’t field at least 1 if not more youth teams while Rocklin’s numbers are enormous. The new Lincoln High School is opening 2020/2021 and its 3/4 mile from Whitney. Hopefully Whitney can build upon its recent success.

Pacer support was very light on Friday night so he has lost support for sure.

he’s been lost support even when grant was good he still didn’t elevate the program they were winning with better and bigger players. Grant is the biggest ticket in town it’s the thing to do on fridays in the community now people will not pay to watch them play you’ll probably see a bigger crowd to watch jv. If coach AL doesn’t quit this year it’s only because he feels that the jv kids are special and get him back on the map but sadly if he stays I doubt the parents will let their kids play for AL. Grant needs a program a structure they rely on talent to often. They don’t even have a structured practice and it shows on Friday’s. It’s to many comfortable coaches
