Haener, Wooldridge in a QB battle at Fresno State

Thanks for sharing the article - makes for a nice post-high school story for North Coast Section football.

Based on what I saw in high school, I would give a slight edge to the shorter in stature Haener.

A couple EBAL'ers that started on the same offensive line last year at Cal Poly were my kid at left tackle and Wade Willet from DLS at left guard. Wade has developed into a large fellow.;)

Bubba let us know how your boy's year goes. He's a a senior, no?

Cool! Congrats to you and your son!

Based on what I’ve seen on KTVU over the years, I’d give him the edge as well.
Ha! You base your call on eye candy. Wooldridge's step dad was my kid's first boss right out of college and his dad was the first WP ref to bench my boy out of his first match at 12 years old. Based on history I 'm sitting in Ben's corner. Of course being a year younger gives him time to be patient.
Should be interesting.

“We’ve had three good practices of preparation and Jake has taken all of the snaps.”

Fresno HC’s quote is strange. I can definitely say a QB throwing to group 1 receivers will always (deceptively) look better than his competition always being relegated to group 2 hands.

Take it for what its worth. Was at an invitational QB camp last year, where the conversation of UW football QB's came up. There was a legacy QB dad from UW there and he was asked about Eason. He said the "smaller QB was the better QB". Two months later Eason is announced the starter, Peterson resigns a little further down the road. It never smelled right. It felt political and UW's disappointing 7-5 regular season record might reflect that.

Unfortunately, Haener finds himself in the same situation where a taller QB might "look the part" more than he does. I've seen Ben throw live, and he has very good arm strength. However, that leaves out a large part of the QB position necessary skill set. I would give the nod to Haener by a decent amount, however, he will always be compared to the "off the bus" look of his counterpart.

Spot on. “Off the bus” look does not make for a better decision maker.
