Looks like St. Mary’s is gonna get the win, but it surrrre wasn’t easy... 76-67 with under a minute left.

How did the game go? I'm a little surprised as I thought SMS' pressure would be a major problem for Carondelet, but obviously not.

Carondelet has never had that much of a problem with any team pressing them. Their problem comes more from approaching every game and every team the same way. And from not being real enough with themselves to take the time out to correct and strengthen weak areas of individuals and their team. And having better trust from coach to player(s) and player to player. They must focused on truly becoming better as a "team". But that takes sacrifice. And accountability. They must put the focus on creating more ways of attacking opponents than just one or two options. They appear to be working on it. I think they are starting to pay closer attention to small details which could make a large difference. If and when they ever get to the point to where they will stop just looking to force up a bad shot to selfishly score points and look to take the best shot (which could be a wide open 3 with a player's foot set over a 2 foot shot taken off balance with their eyes closed. And play looser and not afraid to take chances early in the game particularly quarters 1-3. They'll be alright. I always say what is the worse thing that can happen? Answer.....you lose the game. That might happen anyway when your the under dog. Ok since nothing about basketball is life threatening why approach the game tense and worried about taking chances which could force the opponent to make mistakes?

I was personally impressed with the adjustment coach Elgin Lesley made in the second half to get out on the 3 point shooters. Typically that is an area I have watched Carondelet allow too many teams to work comfortably out on the perimeter. If you have a few good perimeter defenders no matter the size ( which they do have) you can dictate a bit more on the perimeter, than be forced to react more often which benefits the offense.

It was a good game that was only a 4 point difference with just under two minutes to play. In that type of game it becomes a game of possessions. I think SMS took care of the ball better in the last minute and a half and made better shot selections. Their free throw shooting was pretty good down the stretch as well. And they made less mental mistakes. They were the better team on that afternoon.

SMS lacked intensity early on. They allowed the cougars to stick around and then the cougars started hitting their three's and quickly cut the lead to 4. This could easily have been a trap game for SMS. As paytc mentioned they got their focus back just in time to pull out the win. Corondelet played a really good second half.
