Interesting Traveling call to throw into the “will there be HS Sports in 2020” Discussion.

We all know - HS Sports has a shortage of officials.

Now that strong rumors are indicating sports officials will be required to use electronic whistle, wear mask, continue to deal with screaming coaches / parents, as well as Potentially subjecting themselves to the COVID 19 virus while on the field -court or diamond.

With that said; Will any of the HS Sports Seasons EVEN Have officials to officiate their games?

Just an interesting question to put on the free throw line

You do raise a great question given the shortage of officials already being realized. The one upside may be that they might not have to deal with screaming parents - I can really see the number of spectators being limited when they do open up sports.

Officials are just like NCS they like there money they may actually have some leverage this upcoming season to ask for more money considering the work circumstances they will be faced with and remeber some officials work mutiple sports
So in my opinion officials will be ready to work providing that we do have high school
Sports.

For most high school officials it is an avocation and not a necessity. They referee because they enjoy it not because they are making a lot of money. After expenses, equipment, gas, and wear and tear on their vehicle they have a little extra in the bank, but they are not getting rich making 75 to 80 dollars for a varsity game that they may have to travel 80 miles or more round trip in bay area traffic and spend a total of four or five hours away from home on the total trip.

There are very few who use it as a full time income at the H.S. level.

Any H.S. official in the vulnerable age group is going to think very carefully about returning to the court, field etc. until it is safe to do so.
