How many teams will the C.I.F. Nor-Cal Open bracket have?

Cal Hi Sports reports it appears that St. Joesph of Santa Maria will be in Northern California Open.

Riordan fans and others in the Bay Area also may have to check their maps about getting to Santa Maria since this is increasingly looking like a season in which the CIF will be putting St. Joseph in the north and as the top seed (with home games) for the NorCal bracket of the Open Division.

CCS-1 Winner of CCS Open
SJS-2 Winner/Loser should get invite
NCS-2/3 Winner/Loser and Dela Salle or Salesian if they lose a close game.
CS- 2 Winner/Loser Clovis North is defending D1 champion. St. Joesph looks like the favorite in CS again this year.

Three weeks of intense play is shaping up to the Playoffs.



Generally, only 5 or 6 teams make the cut, perhaps this is a year that will have 7 or 8 invited.

Same could be said for SoCal.

Very Possible Scenario. LINCOLN OF STOCKTON is #1 CA STATE D1. #1 in SJS Section. IF, just saying Lincoln loses in the Semis to a MC or Inderkum. Would it be out of the question to put

MC/ Inderkum - Winner/Runner up. AND throw Lincoln of Stockton in as well even though they didnt win the SJS???

I think ALL 3 Teams are worthy of an open BID

I wouldn’t count out Clovis North should they meet St. Joseph for the CS title. SJ was heavily favored last season and CN won by a good margin.

Don’t think where they play matters to teams like Salesian, Riordan, DLS and St.Joseph’s. Interesting, though, as Riordan’s SOS is higher than all the other NorCal teams at moment per MaxPreps.
Also, I would think they would need to have the game at a larger venue than St. Joseph’s if they do end up hosting the NorCal Open Title game. The gym looks like it holds 300 people tops.

I'm pretty sure no Open team cares where they play as they're battle tested.

If St. Joesph hosts, they can move to Santa Maria High School holds 3500.

If Clovis North wins CS as they did last year, then Riordan winning CCS would likely secure them the #1 seed.

Question is how many, Nor Cal Open teams get invited being this year is very stacked.

I saw St Joseph’s and Clovis North at Crush in the Valley….I think St Joseph’s on a good day is about 20 pts better than Clovis North and on a bad day maybe 5-10 pts…..point being I don’t see anyone in their section even coming remotely close to beating St Joseph’s.

And St Joseph’s will be the 1 seed in CIF NorCal Open, followed by Riordan at 2. De La Salle, Salesian and Inderkum would probably be my 3-5. 6 could be a number of teams.

I know they like to limit it to 6 but if they did 8 this year, I wouldn’t be mad at it.
