Sat down just in time to watch the Bulldogs JV’s return the kickoff to midfield, then run around left end to the house. 7-0 Folsom JV’s.

Rocklin moved the ball well, but the 4-first down drive ended poorly, with a pick-six of 80 yards.

14-0.

Another pick, by the same guy, Daniel Eagleton, I think…. Folsom has it again on their 42.

Bulldogs are unstoppable thus far.. 21-0 now. 7:57 in the half.

Rocklin has moved the ball pretty well on offense, but picks have killed both drives.

3 and out…. and Folsom scores again, this time on a 43-yard bomb. 28-0, a very good chance of running-clock and a lonnngggggg break before varsity.

Rocklin finally gets something going, and has 1st down at the Folsom8, I think 28 seconds left in the half.

Pass on first down, complete for no gain. 20 seconds, another time out.

Pass into end zone complete for a Rocklin TD with 15 seconds left. Conversion kick…. Wide left. 28-6. That PAT miss was a gut punch…

Rocklin got it all the way to first-and-goal to start the 3rd…. But Eagleton gets his 2nd pick-6 of the game. 35-6.

Okay.. Calpreps has the game 35-28 Folsom, but I have an idea it’s a little more like 2-3 TD’s difference. Should be a good competitive game, tho…

Thunder to kick off…

Recieved at the 12, run back all the way to the Rocklin 40!

Oops, false start…. 1st and 15.

Rivera run to the 38, 2nd and 8.. More flags, procedure on Folsom. 2nd and 13.

Lyons keeps it, gets around end for a first down at the Rocklin 30.

Run stuffed for no gain. No-huddle offense tough on my fingers…. Pass to the flat, run to the house…. Holding Folsom. 2nd and 17.

Lyons pass, receiver is POUNDED, incomplete after the drop.

Run left gets about 6. 4th and 10-ish.

four-down territory here…

omg…. Lyons…. does what he DOES. Coverage is great, so he scramlbes back and back…. and breaks it all the way to the 6.

No gain…. 2nd down.

Pass into double coverage is broken up, 3rd down on the 6.

Rocklin time out, 7:57 left in the 1st.

Lyons keeper, goes around end and sc…. wait, holding. 3nd and goal on the 16.

Pass to Rivera in thee flat, he gains about 10. 4th down…. FG try coming.

Bingo…. 3-0 Bulldogs, 6:59 left in the 1st.

Rocklin had just 10 guys on the field, but they still managed to return it to the 19.

QB scrambles for 5, great downfield coverage.

Runner clobbered, fumbles, Buldogs recover, but a flag is down… Facemask on the Bulldogs. 5-yards for first down.

QB forced to scramble again, gains 5. 2nd down.

Pass dropped. 3rd and 5.

Pass complete this time, all the way to the Folsom 45, 1st down.

Run middle pushed left, gains a couple. 2nd and 8.

Run there the middle again, he breaks thru and goes all the way! Kick good, 7-3 Rocklin. 4:30 left in the 1st.

Kick returned to the Folsom 39.

Short pass, complete for 6. 2nd down.

Screen pass almost stuffed, but he gets a first down, somehow…. Run up the middle gets a big chunk, first down at the Rocklin 40.

Pass was late, receiver almost clobbered, but not. 2nd and 10.

Lyons fakes a handoff, charges up the middle to the 25, first down…. Pass now, gets another D to the 2.

Lyons takes it himself for a Bulldogs TD! Kick is good. 10-7 Folsom with 2:04 left in the 1st.

Returned to the Rocklin 30.

Runner SMACKED for no gain… 2nd and 10.

Pass to the left flat, nice run after the catch, first down Rocklin at the 41.

Run gets about 3…. 2nd and 7.

End of first q.

Run makes it 3rd and short…

Run for 1st down on the Folsom 46.

QB sacked for a BIG loss…. 2nd and 21.

Pass go thru receiver’s hands to ANOTHER receiver… gain of maybe 3.

Pass complete, nice catch, still short of a first down. 4th and 2. four-down territory..

They try to draw Folsom’s D offside…. but THREE Rocklin lineman jump offside. 4th and 7. Folsom time out. 7:09 left in the half.

They punt out of a regular offensive formation… It goes poorly, out of bounds at the Folsom 22.

Run off left tackle, gets 4.

Run thru the middle results in a Folsom first down.

Pass too wide, 2nd and 10 at the Folsom 36.

Flat pass left, gets a couple, 3rd and 6.

Lyons forced to throw it away, 4th and 6.

Scrambling Lyons completes another pass, now it’s at the 15 2nd and 8. False start.

Pass over the middle gets close to a first down, 3rd and 3.

Run is stuffed for no gain, 4th and 3.

Lyon runs into a mess of guys in the middle, somehow comes out the other side and gets a TD! Kick is good…. 17-7. 2:24 left in the half.

Returner darn near breaks it, stopped tho at the 30…. but a Folsom personal foul, late hit, tageting, facemask, something like that…. Rocklin in business at their 45.

Run stuffed for maybe 1 yard, 2nd and 9.

Long pass, too far, 3rd down.

QB forced to scramble, gets off a long pass, incomplete…. 4th down.

Going for it, apparently…Now they call time.

Punt returned all the way to the Folsom 44. 1:11 left.

They go flea-flicker, but it gains just 6.

Lyons keeper, first down at the Rocklin 35.

Pass to the sideline, 1st down on the 25.

Pass middle, behind the receiver, but he somehow pulls it in, first down! 12.4 left, on the Rocklin 9.

Lyons keeper, gets to the 4, time out with 6.6 left. Rocklin DESPERATELY needs to get a stop here.

Lyons scrambles, find a man open in the end zone…. TD Bulldogs! Kick good…. 24-7.

Kick return gets to the 20, clock runs out.

Folsom has made more mistakes than we are used to seeing, but leads 24-7 at the half.

I love Coach Adams, but his decision to punt the ball on 4th and 7 from the Folsom 43 (after the penalty) was a big swing in this first half.

I just don’t see the logic in opting to play the field position game (even with a good punt) versus playing aggressively and trying to keep the ball out of Folsom’s hands on what would have essentially amounted to a turnover if the Thunder convert the first down. Even if they don’t covert, I don’t see how 20-30 yards changes much, considering they haven’t stopped Folsom once yet.

If Rocklin converts and scores there, it might be 17-14 right now with RHS receiving the 2nd half kick off. But they opted to be conservative and they’re in the same position they’d have been in had they not converted the 4th and 7.

Play to win versus playing not to lose.

Defensively, the Thunder have had numerous chances to swing momentum with 4th down stops but just haven’t been able to make a play. Folsom has even helped them out a bit with a string of penalties but it hasn’t mattered.

Ryder Lyons is doing what he usually does, despite some good early pass defense from Rocklin. The kid is just slippery as hell and his ability to make plays on the run is unparalleled at the HS level, at least in NorCal.

If RHS has any chance to rebound and make this a game, they have to convert their opening 2nd half possession. And, again, manage a couple 4th down stops on defense.
