We talk a lot about the players on a team, but don’t give the coaches enough credit. I’ve seen some very talented teams not go far, as the coach did not adjust to the style of the players. Also have seen some less talented teams with coaches who adjust year to year win Section championships and beyond. It is always good to have good talent to start with though and a coach who understands the changing dynamics of the game, I agree with Small Talk, programs that win don’t need to recruit. These players and parents talk all the time. They are far more informed than most of the high school coaches about players and player movement, unless the coach is also out on the AAU circuit.
