Long article, so I'll link it: http://www.chicoer.com/sports/20180...ll-schedule-competitive-equity-maxpreps-stats

Couple points I focused on when reading:

1) Compressed Playoffs... Even though the sectional finals will be on a Tuesday rather than Saturday, the possibility of doubleheaders exists if host teams are reasonably close together and one or both have small gyms, leaving the possibility of something like an O'Dowd boys/St. Joe's boys doubleheader at a bigger place like Albany or Merritt or whatever... Or even O'Dowd boys and Mitty girls at Mitty... Obviously, this would depend on what teams actually get deep into the playoffs next year... It is mentioned that this is harder in NorCal because really large-and-available gyms aren't exactly plentiful up here... I *guess* this is kinda-sorta true... But there are certainly *some*... Logan, American Canyon, Cardinal Newman, Las Positas, Cal-St. Hayward, Dublin to name a few... I'm sure there are more up in the Sac area, too.

2) Season ending earlier (March 9), should help cross-sport athletes out if they're going to play baseball or track... No mention at ALL of what the earlier Nov. 12 start would do to kids who want to play football/basketball... Or their harried parents. (Of course, *my* solution is an easy one... Ban football) :) Oh, and ban soccer while we're at it...

3) There apparently has been discussion over requiring that stats put up on MaxPreps, and apparently the powers-that-be think there would be way too much opposition from coaches, etc. But a statement here really bugs me... "It’s coaches that, unfortunately, think that not putting stats up is going to gain me a competitive advantage. Every game is on the internet. I can get stats anywhere. You’re making me work harder. But you’re hurting the kids..."

Um... Wait, what? "Every game is on the internet?" "I can get stats ANYWHERE"?? More like, for many schools it's like pulling teeth just to get a game score, let alone any stats or footage. If you can get games and stats all that easily, please tell ME how to do it...

From what I’ve heard football will actually start in the summer before school is even in session

I think this is also going to have somewhat of an effect on Tournaments. Some might need to be adjusted. League play happening during tournaments and such. Players not being ready or missing for other sports.

Here’s wishing you great hoops

Speaking of those tournaments... I suppose there’s a strong possibility that those tourneys after Xmas will feature teams at full after-transfer strength, since they would have played 30 days by then... Hmmm.

Football is starting August 17 I think this year. I like the condensed schedule.

While I like the most information I can find, I don't think there should be a mandate for posting stats. Almost all coaches I've talked with are willing to give stats to fill in the gaps of a story, which is all that is really needed.

As for the early start, I'm finding a lot of teams still won't have their first games until the November 29th-December 1st tournament weekend. I haven't seen the football playoff schedule, but I also know of some teams that expect to have football players making deep runs that won't play until into the first week of December.

As for the stats on maxpreps issue, many schools have trouble finding an consistent and accurate stat person for every game which is the biggest problem. A lot of coaches just don't feel it's important to have the numbers for themselves let alone on maxpreps which I find insane as kind of an analytics geek myself!

30-Day sit now ends Dec 28th for Basketball. Unsure if that means transfers get to play the 28th AND 29th or just the 29th. Its only about a 5-6 day difference and with holiday and weekend, not much of a change.

I don’t think that date is right . In fact from what I’m told there won’t be a date. CIF is voting on state wide 50% of season regardless of date. For basketball all teams will have 28 game limit thus sitting out 14 no matter what date that falls on

Is that for all transfers, or just athletically motivated ones? What are the parameters? If a family actually moves to a new city, does the kid need to sit out?

@H.E.A.T. check out the 2018-2019 SJS sport Calendar. it lists for basketball

Tryouts Oct 29th.
First Contest Nov 16
Sit out Period Dec 28th.

Also the agenda from yesterday CIF-SJS meeting didn't list anything about at 50% sit out period. We did vote on adopting the 28 game contests. CIF-State meetings are tomorrow and saturday and 50% date is not on that agenda as well.

Anybody know if the NCS has any plans to adopt the 28 game schedule?
