Long article, so I'll link it: http://www.chicoer.com/sports/20180...ll-schedule-competitive-equity-maxpreps-stats
Couple points I focused on when reading:
1) Compressed Playoffs... Even though the sectional finals will be on a Tuesday rather than Saturday, the possibility of doubleheaders exists if host teams are reasonably close together and one or both have small gyms, leaving the possibility of something like an O'Dowd boys/St. Joe's boys doubleheader at a bigger place like Albany or Merritt or whatever... Or even O'Dowd boys and Mitty girls at Mitty... Obviously, this would depend on what teams actually get deep into the playoffs next year... It is mentioned that this is harder in NorCal because really large-and-available gyms aren't exactly plentiful up here... I *guess* this is kinda-sorta true... But there are certainly *some*... Logan, American Canyon, Cardinal Newman, Las Positas, Cal-St. Hayward, Dublin to name a few... I'm sure there are more up in the Sac area, too.
2) Season ending earlier (March 9), should help cross-sport athletes out if they're going to play baseball or track... No mention at ALL of what the earlier Nov. 12 start would do to kids who want to play football/basketball... Or their harried parents. (Of course, *my* solution is an easy one... Ban football) Oh, and ban soccer while we're at it...
3) There apparently has been discussion over requiring that stats put up on MaxPreps, and apparently the powers-that-be think there would be way too much opposition from coaches, etc. But a statement here really bugs me... "It’s coaches that, unfortunately, think that not putting stats up is going to gain me a competitive advantage. Every game is on the internet. I can get stats anywhere. You’re making me work harder. But you’re hurting the kids..."
Um... Wait, what? "Every game is on the internet?" "I can get stats ANYWHERE"?? More like, for many schools it's like pulling teeth just to get a game score, let alone any stats or footage. If you can get games and stats all that easily, please tell ME how to do it...
