Jalen Stokes denied eligibility at Dougherty Valley

Makes no sense to deny a kid from playing these people need to get with the times. this is not 1982. A kid gets 4 years to play, who cares if they transfers. If a kid feels that he has a better opportunity somewhere else let him go and as a coach you should never try and stop a kid. But thats because at the end of the day it ain't about the kid. These sickens me.

This has to be the all-time bonehead transfer. Its like going from a clerk at Lowes to one at Home Depot. What do you get from transferring from Dublin to DV? Please educate me. Dublin is a better program. At end of day it doesn't matter because he's already going to UCD but I'm certainly not losing sleep over it and its hardly a story.

Well, it certainly is for the two teams involved... Whichever team he ends up playing for has a legit shot at a deeeeeeep run, the other more of a longshot at that run.

Personally, I have an idea the transfer has something to do with some sort of goings-on at Dublin... Seems like he chose to get out of Dublin rather sticking around in some sort of uncomfortable situation there (No, I have no idea what that might be, no inside info whatsoever, just a hunch), moving to the closest viable alternative.

Understood but its not like he's going to a prep school of even a private. Seems like a lateral to slightly down move at best.
But at end of day it doesn't matter other than being a spectator sucks.

I agree. Let the kids play. I read about some really talented kids (already with D1 commitments) in Southern California transferring to new high schools (i.e. Sierra Canyon) without any consequences. What is different here if all of the requirements to transfer have been met? Did Dublin protest the transfer?

That is the part I hate the inconsistencies the the CIF. Its a joke. LA might as well not be apart of the CIF. It makes me sick that they do this. I'm going to have my kids transfer because I like another school Band, would he have to sit out? My daughter is going to transfer because she like the other teams cheer squad. Do she have to sit out. My other son wants to be on a better debate team and he is transferring do he have to sit out. CIF and the Sections in North California is a JOKE......... GET WITH THE TIMES

Kiddman, you might be on to something. There was a verbal altercation between Stokes and a former Dublin assistant coach that may have contributed to his desire to transfer.

Seems like Dublin must have pleaded their case to block the transfer (can't really blame them) and that something caused him to want to leave. Heading to another solid program at a nearby public school seems like a logical decision on his and his family's part. I have to wonder if he had decided to transfer to say De La Salle or another private if his transfer would have been approved

You are aware that DV won NCS Open 2years ago and won NCS D1 last year. Dublins last NCS championship was when? How are they the better program?

If a parent and kid want to transfer to another school for WHATEVER REASON they should be able to....period....with no penalty.

It shouldn't matter if it's for sports, band, debate club, math club, choir etc...

AND.....

All the sections should play by the same rules on transfers.

The fact that it's the wild wild west in the Southern section and almost anything goes while up here in the NCS the powers that be deny kids all the time. It's not a level playing field and it's ridiculous.

What's funny is when both schools moved into the EBAL league it was said that neither would be able to compete and both programs have done quite well and claimed league titles they both have consistently been two of the better public school programs.

In basketball a few players can make a huge difference. Both of these schools have solid coaches and have competed well with the existing EBAL schools. Football and baseball have been a much bigger challenge for them.

Not sure I completely agree. A lot of parity between the two programs. But have to give the edge to DV. Overall Hansen has done more with less talent.

It would be nice if people knew the whole story on transfers before making guesses as to what and why. I learned lately about a couple of transfers that makes more sense as to why one transfer was allowed versus other not allowed.

Of course I'm aware of that. DV had a once in a 25 +year backcourt with the 2 small guards. (Sevilla and Beasely) Dublin is a better program right now and is better this year. With him they would be a legit open contender. Clearly the move was related to some scuffle or disagreement because you don't transfer between these schools.
