Johnny Millard steps down at Monte Vista

Yep. I don't know what is going on there. Bergman was truly a great coach and a wizard with grooming great QBs. Maybe some demographic shifts compared to San Ramon Valley and Cal High but I can't confirm. Pleasanton has seen a shift but you would think it would impact Cal Hi and San Ramon Valley as well. It may be from shift in school leadership - Monte Vista used to be a football school and doesn't seem to have the reputation any longer after a number of tough years. Maybe someone can answer? Maybe more students from the area attending DLS. It just seems they deteriorated fast after Bergman left. Tough to replace great coaches.

Yeah it’s hard to point to one reason for the drop off but they have had some drop off in boys basketball and baseball too so might be a school wide thing in these sports.

And then anything you have coaching instability, it can exasperate issues too

I’ve enjoyed listening to Bergman when he sometimes calls high school games. Really knowledgeable but does so in a way that a lot of people can understand.

MV had the same amount of talent then SRV if not more last season but the coaching staff just couldn’t put it together on the field. MV has only beaten SRV one time since 2017 and kids don’t wanna be apart of a program that’s on the losing end especially a rivalry game in a smaller town like Danville. MV has the talent to be a top team in the NCS but they just need a leader who can truly get the full potential of his players.

SRV being on the rise doesn’t help MV either
