Julian D. Neal - 6’4 WR/DB - Mission High School - SF

There is a young man in San Francisco, Julian Neal, a Junior who plays for Mission High School, apart of the AAA, who has already received offers from San Jose State and Eastern Washington Universities, is making a lot of noise. Look him up. He played JV Football in 2018-19 at Freedom High School in Oakley, Ca and he relocated back to San Francisco for his Junior Year.

You’re absolutely correct. This young man did begin High School at Archbishop Riordan, but a change was made early in his Freshman Year. The young man is solid now. This young man is a born, bread and fed San Franciscan with very deep roots and family ties. No more transfers lol Mission High Is SF is where he’ll finish High School. He’s a special athlete and as his Dad, my lone wish is for Julian to garner the exposure he deserves. He’s actually getting good looks from University Coaches and Recruiters. If someone can tell me how to post videos on here I can post footage. I would love to see another San Francisco Kid make it to the highest level possible, Football hopefully. But, with this Pandemic, we may not see prep sports in the foreseeable future. I hope I’m wrong. We have never seen anything like this before.

Hard to know what to think of the tape because you have to keep in mind he’s going against some of the weakest competition in the United States literally in the AAA so I see an athlete who looks the part going against kids who look literally half his size and speed

I’ve seen this kid first hand, coaching in the AAA this past season. He is a legitimate athlete, and has the size and athleticism to play at the next level. I’ve coached in the WCAL, and PAL leagues for many years so I can gauge this young man’s ability.

Yes, the AAA may not be considered a top tier league but it is not as bad as most may believe. The AAA has produced three straight CIF Titles. That has to count for something.

Also, this young man’s older brother is a force on the courts, so the pedigree is there. Wether it’s the JUUCO route that so many City kids must go through, I do believe D1 is in this kids future.

My purpose of creating a thread is to place this kid on the radar. I see your opinion regarding the AAA. I disagree tho. But that’s another discussion entirely. The young man’s talent transcends any particular League. Just want him to get in the mix, that’s all. He’s been playing organized Football since he was 7 (Tiny-Mites) and at 17, he has a tremendous upside. Keeping in mind he’s my Son and honestly, I can be extremely objective, meaning, even if he wasn’t my Son, I would say the same thing. San Francisco AAA gets such a bad rap. Just wanted to blow the whistle on a kid who I believe has a chance, that’s all. And yes, a 6’4 WR is on the tall side and he’s still growing, hoping to get a good spurt this summer (hopefully). Size & Speed? To be continued....... lol

What’s so hard to think of the tape? This kid snatches the ball from the air. He’s explosive after the catch. And from the looks of the tape it seems that he plays hard every single play.

Yes no doubt I said he looks the part, he’s D1 hence the offers......just different when those highlights are against higher level competition like the WCAL then the AAA is all Im saying.......or like you said he’s a BVAL kid at one point, do that against Pitt/Liberty then you really catching the eye

If he can run a 40 in 4.6 and if he has a vertical leap over 33 inches he will get picked up by someone..Athleticism translates. THAT'S how come you see basketball guys get tryouts with NFL teams all the time...

LAPRELLE AT Riordan. They're some athletes that just need to stay the course....

Bethel Thompson played at Balboa and ended up at ucla, Davis and then nfl, cfl and back...AAA isnt that bad. It's an average league with 3 good teams. LINCOLN. mission Galileo and Balboa sometimes...I just hope it will be a high school season coming up..

AAA is not an average league lol they had ONE team finish with a positive Calpreps rating!!! That’s not even the norm usually they all have a negative rating and one team finished above .500 and it’s ranks 163 out of 175 it’s not even close to a mediocre league........and i don’t know where you didn’t read the part where I said he looks the part and I said he’s obviously next level player that’s we got offers, just saying a better measurable is seeing you do it against guys of your same talent level, he’s obviously the biggest , fastest , most talented guy everytime he steps on the field in the AAA in the WCAL or BVAL that wouldn’t always be the case

Cool video m4, thanks. I am going to show my age here but with that size and speed I am being reminded of the former Washington Eagle great Warren Parker. Good health and luck to the young man going forward.

the Washington eagle I was thinking of (dating myself as well) was Antonio Cooks who was also a pretty legit WR in the 90s

The AAA may be one of the very worst leagues in NorCal but there is some talent lurking there. Much of it is raw and unrefined but scouts, especially those from JC's, are aware. Every now and then, a player (or two) emerges from the league's justified anonymity and breaks through.

congrats! That is a great spot for him, Tedford has coached many NFL skill position players he should have some big years there
 
The Young Man signed with Fresno State yesterday. First kid in the AAA SF Public Schools to sign with a D1 School in 20 Years. Nice way to represent the San Francisco Unified School District, even in the midst of Covid-19 and probably no Football Season.

Whether it's 20 years or 10 years, the AAA is a shell of what it once was. Still, there is a sliver of talent there. The demographics of San Francisco, combined with the public school district's lack of budgetary support/administrative commitment for prep sports, has created an athletic backwater. Oddly, the league, fewer than a dozen schools, remains a separate CIF section, a holdover created by history going back nearly a century. But, when any kid, male or female, manages to vault directly into a DI program in any sport from the AAA, he or she should be applauded.

Who was the last one? My memory says Bobby Shaw from Galileo going to Cal.

It’s been 20 years that a young man has gone directly from High School to a D1 Program. There’s been young men who first went the JC route then transferred. This young man was able to go straight and that’s a testament to his talent.

Talent gets you to the next level, not necessarily the league you’re in. I’m sure you know that.

I graduated from Mission High School in San Francisco in 1993 and BShaw is a 93 grad from Galileo. The cool part is, BShaw was a very quite, savvy and was smarter than what people initially gave him credit for. To make a long dialogue short, he performed very well at Call as we Ole timers lol already know!! And do you remember when he caught the winning touchdown pass as a Seahawk in the closing seconds against the 9ers in a pre-season game on a Saturday evening???? I almost jumped out my house window!!! Bobby Shaw is a AAA unsung hero, period. He succeeded against all the stigmas and negative stereotypes of San Francisco Prep Public High School Sports.

Indeed congrats! So what do you think is the issue of the lack of D1 scholarships straight from high school? It seems the athletes are there.

We are definitely dating ourselves here, but its too bad theres no more Hoop-it-up tournament. You, EJ and Julian would be a force!

Most recently. the young late David Henderson RB and sprinter from Lincoln was probably the best athlete in the AAA since OJ Simpson. Unfortunately for many reasons he didn't get recruited D1 and didn't turn things around in JC and he met a tragic early death in a shooting a few years ago.

I like Julian's film. You can tell he is an athlete and the type of player that can play at a higher level of competition. He has decent speed and is aggressive on the field and to the ball. Looks like he has high upside for Fresno state.
