Las Lomas head coach Brian Dietschy has resigned today to spend more time with his kids (ages 10, 8, 4). He compiled a 53-11 record in his two years as head coach, including a NorCal D-1 title and back-to-back league titles.

I would get out to if I lost 5 college basketball players and 7 seniors. That type of talent comes around every 20 years. They are going to have a long year.

The talent fall off from Rob Prince, Nathan Robinson, Jason Holman and Devin Payne would make me want to spend more time with family as well..... Family can wait when you have that once a generation talent ;-) .

Same with me. LL had there best team maybe "Ever"? Its like the Windsor coaching bouncing as well after losing a trio of stud players. Family is key but so is timing. Can't blame either one of them with the rigors of coaching HS sports and dealing with all the drama.

You're basically calling him a quitter, when you dont put yourself in his shoes. The man has decided that he wants to be with his family more. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. Give more credit to these men and women that take on the extra task of being a high school coach. The pay/stipends these men and women get do not equal the time throughout the season they put in.

Having kids that are 10, 8 and 4 is a very busy and rewarding time as a father. Those years go by so fast and it’s good for the family that he is going to spend more time with them. Brian is a good guy, and I wouldn’t consider this as quitting. He probably never planned on being the coach long term, but hard to pass up coaching that group of kids. Las Lomas is part of the Acalanes Union High School District serving the Lamorinda area, which is notorious for having overbearing parents and is a tough place to coach. Best of luck to him.

He knew what he was getting into and likely knew when his end game would be too. Let's be real...if all those guys were coming back he would have stayed another year. At the same time you can't blame a guy for getting out especially at a school/district notorious for treating coaches like garbage that are essentially volunteers and administrations with zero backbone to back the up. If you ever want to learn EVERYTHING about basketball sit next to the parents at an Acalanes v. Las Lomas game. You will get sooooo smart just like all of them.

I think any coach with young kids wants to spend more time with them and has the right to do so. And when you are coaching, at a public school too, I think it is fine to choose your exit (following a super class graduating).

I don't have a problem with the timing as long as the infrastructure was being built up last year (supporting lower levels, etc).
