Antioch at Pittsburg.....The Pick.....Antioch 41 Pittsburg 38.....what happened...Antioch 44 Pittsburg 42...Talk about a wild game...Pittsburg took off to a 21-8 lead, but Antioch recovered and made it 21-14, but the Pirates continued their scoring spree and made it 28-14. which caused Antioch to play catch-up football, but it got worse as the Pirates moved ahead 35-24, but Antioch recovered and came back and took over the lead at 38-35 and then to 44-35, but the Pirates were not done yet and scored one last Td to make it 44-42....Who knows what would have happened if there was one more quarter.....What a way to top off the season for high school football....we thought it would be exciting and it was.. when you have Harris and Payne for Antioch and Thompson ad Parker for Pittsburg plus a great supporting unit on both teams you get a game like this...

How many of the guys went to see the Miramonte-Campolindo game with the possibility of a wild scoring game only to see a shut out that was not expected....And then this last sat. afternoon, Antioch-Pittsburg met and put on the show that every body wanted to see...In the early going, the Pittsburg line time and time again, bottled up Harris and it was Boyd and Payne that were carrying the load as the Panther line could not get the blocking done that Harris needed to get rolling...If the Antioch line would have kept the Pittsburg line at bay, its a good chance that Harris could have scored one or two more TD's...but it was the Pirate line that made the difference in the early going that made a big difference...Also Penalties did not help the Panthers in the early going that hampered the offense as well as the defense and it was the hard running of Thompson that kept the Pirates rolling in the early going and had the Antioch fan's wondering what was happening..

In the past, I've always thought that the Antioch defense was suspect even when they were mowing down teams.....But in any case, both Pittsburg or Antioch who ever gets the chance to meet will go down by the score of 63-6 or some where in the area against DLS....This is one of DLS' best defense's in several years.....In the early going, Antioch's line could not handle the Pittsburg defense as Harris was thrown for several big looses and a large number of no gains...So the big weakness of the Antioch team in the early going was the offensive line against a determined Pittsburg defense. For a short period in the early part of the game, it sure looked like the Pirates were going to walk away with a win...Did Antioch get lucky??? Maybe.....But it sure looked like the Pirates were going to win, in any case it was a wild game.
