St. Ignatius, founded in 1855 in San Francisco, will have lights installed at its Sunset District football facility as early as 2021, thanks to approval from the SF Board of Supervisors. This will be a first for the venerable Jesuit institution. SI is a member of the West Catholic Athletic League. The closest league member with permanent lights on a campus football field is St. Francis in Mountain View. Serra in San Mateo is allowed just one home night game per year, as mandated by the SM City Council.

Sitting on the Visitors side will be more bearable than the Home side. Visiting guests have their backs to the ocean and the homes across the street help shield from the wind. Those cold damp evening breezes off the Pacific hits you relentlessly on the SI side.
