I can understand the prejudice against a DIV state champion getting the same accolades as an Open winner, but coaching is coaching. You have to coach no matter the level of talent you face, and no matter the level of talent you have. In fact, it's a lot harder to coach when you don't have players you can just tell to go make a play. And when you have eight good players, eight college players say, you have experienced, talented athletes who play year round at a very high level. You don't have that at small schools, and getting positive play out of non-stars is much harder. And they're playing against players of roughly equal talent, so coaching really comes into play. Give me five elite players and my message is "Don't get hurt and do what you do." Give me two elite players and five who play two or three sports and I've got to coach.
