Just read that the McClymonds/San Leandro game schedule for this Friday night has been cancelled due to safety concerns

Sad that the game has to be cancelled due to threats... Interesting though, Mack Coach Peters wanted the game to be a win forfeit for his team. If it is true that both school administrations mutually agreed to not allow the game to be played, its a strange wish to have a forfeit win.

That's right, it is sad. Especially if the statement is correct that the threat was related to individuals outside the two schools communities. Then why cancel. I'm sure there's threats in every community daily, just watch the news. There must be something more to the story. And if Coach Peters wants that W, obviously the Mack feels SL forced the cancellation.

Last weekend, Mission vs. Oakland contest was called off late in fourth period due to egregious crowd behavior and subsequent brawl. The beat goes on.

Well that sucks. I remember the year after I graduated my high school had a basketball game almost get cancelled for similar reasons. They ended up playing the game at a closed gym with no fans allowed in.

I remember a time in the 80's when all OAL games were played during school hours with no fans/parents allowed in attendance. Hopefully we never get to that point again.

Total over reaction and so uncalled for (based on the info presented). Instead of managing the situation they initially opted to be lazy and take the easy way out. Im so glad to see they are now doing the right thing. Kudos to both police departments for putting their resources together to support there respective communities.

It was because of hearsay,, Mack is one of the safest
places to go to a game,, I've been going there since the 70's Mack offered more offiecer's, SL admins say no, Mack offered the play the game in front of no fans, SL declined, Mack offered to play on Sat. A.M SL Declined. The coaches & kids wanted to play.. It was the Ffed up admins. They just didn't want the game to happen. San Leandro players and coaches were in McClymonds stands watching the Downey game.

Sounds like more hearsay. Thats great Mack is a safe place, but the game was scheduled in SL. Are you saying Mack controls the SL police dept to offer more officers? Is it possible Burrell Field is already booked for saturday Crusader games? I'm sure the kids wanted to play but if there was truly a threat, I can't blame them for being overly safe.

The oak.sec. comish offered additional officers it would have cost SL dist. nothing. The game has been reinstated.

Does that mean the game is reinstated as scheduled or being changed to an undisclosed time and place?

I agree with Joe Davidson's take on this. I don't care if they have to play in an empty stadium. Find a way to play the game w/o punishing the coaches and kids that worked their @$$ off all week to prepare for the game.

The threat was likely made just for this result. Making an impact by getting the game cancelled. So they got over.

I also get the take "what if something actually happens". Safety does come first. So if they can't ensure safety, then don't allow anyone to attend except the players, coaches and officials. But still play the game.

"The oak. sec. comish." A six-team "section" has a commissioner. That's like the Isle of Wight having a president. Kill me now.

Hahhahha. And declining enrollment year after year. Tough job.

Math is not a strong point in Oakland. Screaming protesters don't want tiny (really tiny) schools closed to save money. They want all schools to remain open, no teacher layoffs (even as enrollment plunges) and higher teacher pay to boot. They want it all. Hello, Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren. Come on down.
