Menlo-Atherton 2023 OL Soane Faasolo has committed to Washington

This school seems to put out more D1 athletes than any high school on the peninsula including the privates.

Do they have better athletes than Serra and St. Francis or just better academics and connections with the college recruiters?

I used to mistake this school for the private school in Atherton with the similar name. Menlo Atherton has WR's over in Oregon & Fresno State, they have guys all over the Pac 12. Why isn't this school ranked higher in football?

Outside of one season, the on field success has fallen short of the recruit level. But yes, they have had a very good recent track record of sending guys out to D1 programs

Menlo-Atherton has made two state bowl game appearances in 3AA - winning over Lincoln of San Diego in 2018 and losing to Paraclete in 2016. MA's final rating in the CCS the last four years has been 4th(#1 public school), 3rd (#2 public school behind Los Gatos) , 6th (#3 public school behind Wilcox and Los Gatos), and 3rd (#1 public school).

By my count MA has 9 players currently on D1 rosters (3 starters and 2 others on depth charts) slightly behind St. Francis with 13 (also 3 starters 2 on depth charts) and Serra with 10 (2 starters) and slightly ahead of Valley Christian with 8 players (2 starters 2 on depth charts). While MA has similar top level talent to WCAL schools they don't seem to have the same team depth. MA has challenged themselves in recent years but have not been able to beat the top teams from the WCAL and have also lost to Folsom and some top teams from Oregon and Utah.

M-A benefited greatly when the Sequoia Union High School District ended its busing/desegregation program, allowing kids from East Palo Alto/East Menlo Park to attend their neighborhood school.

MA became a machine under former HC Adhir Ravipati. They’ve still be very good since but they are not what they were just a few years ago.
