There are a couple of ways to look at this game and from Alhambra's point of view they had three passer interference calls that were called against the Bulldog defense, a roughing the passer and a fumble after a 50 yard run by Elliot that all led to the Bulldog defeat But on the flip side, Miramonte's receivers were finding all sorts of holes in the Alhambra defense which made it easy for Tim Tague to make strikes to Lindberg and Anderson all night...Lindberg was hauling in long passes of 32 and 40 yards and Anderson pulled in a 23 yarder and both were making plenty of short catches which Alhambra could not stop....another thing that contributed to Alhambra's loss were all the penalities they committed....But it goes deeper.....Miramonte had 21 first downs were stopped once on a goal line stand and forced to punt only once but had 95 yards in penalities on nine calls while Alhambra had 13 calls for 105 yards
Miramonte on their first position drove right down and scored and made it look easy, but at this point the Bulldog's would not let up but could never get the advantage they needed to turn the game around as the Mat's stopped four runs for no gain and sacked Elliot twice for 23 yards.
For the running game, Clayton Stehr was banging away on one small gain after another and when Stehr wasn't on the move, Tim Tauge was busy with the passing game..
.For Alhambra. they ran 22 plays ad gained 204 yards, went to the air 18 times for 129 yards while Miramonte ran 31 times for 109 yards and the passing game saw 40 passes and 26 hits for 324 yards. Alhambra has only seven first downs fumbled once and punted twice
Alhambra freshman won 14-7

I dont think the stats or the score really show how close this game was. In my opinion that was the best the Bulldog defense has looked in a few years. They held Mira on almost two goal line stops and Miramonte went for it on all 4 downs 11 times and converted 10 of them. Such a grinder for the defense and the Bulldog offense had a scare in QB Elliott looked to be injured and backup QB threw for a 50 yard TD to bring the game to within 8 points. Overall, I was surprised by how well the Bulldogs fought and IMO should of been a much much closer game without some questionable calls and balls going Miramonte's way. However, hats off to them they have an explosive offense and that is why I have them finishing first in the DFAL

Beatenpath2.......You are right, in the second quarter, Miramonte was ahead 14-0, but the Bulldogs made it 14-7 only to have the Mat's come back and make it 21-7 but again, Alhambra would not stop and scored again and made it 21-13...At this point, it looked like Alhambra might be able to turn this game around but when Elliot went down after a 50 yard run and fumbled that was a bumb call, the Bulldogs lost their momentum and Miramonte went on to score and make it 28-13...On all 11 downs, Miramonte was fourth and fifth long, but the Bulldogs were victim to their own pass defense and Tim Tague took advantage of it and the Mat's marched on....the penalities again, were a real draw back, as Alhambra could not over come them....This is something that Alhambra has to address as well as pass defense.....

@bluedog Yes, the flags do need to be addressed, but a couple flags I thought were great defense, but a couple of the flags for Alhambra were not correct either. The bad calls went both ways but Mira got the ones when they needed them. Overall defense still needs improvement but I can see the potential.
@slick Miramonte played well, two major weapons to throw two along with a hard to bring down RB, and their QB is very competent. Defense is okay at best, but they bring 7 majority of the time and attempt to create havoc by just blitzing their opponent repeatedly. Capable defense with an explosive offense and I can see Miramonte playing CV in D2 this year

Beathenpath2......The call's on the pass intereference I don't think were justified, both were going for the ball and these calls sure favored Miramonte.. My big grip is the off sides, holding....there is way too much of it. This has bee a big problem for years...there have been a few games where every one involved paid attention to what they were doing, but last night, big ground gains by Beck and McCart were called back on unneeded holding..without these holding calls, we may have seen some big changes???
