Anyone watch the past dance?

People over 30 already knew he was the greatest but mandatory watching for anyone who is a new warriors fan or the youth of today.
Some irrational dub nation people seem to think curry is the greatest ever.

Great documentary "The Last Dance". MJ is the GOAT IMO. I was at that Warriors game when Jordan got injured. The Oakland Coliseum was sold out as had been even before they started winning championships. Different eras, but both Jordan and Curry changed the game in their own way.

Curry is the greatest shooter ever but hands Down Jordan is the best to ever step on the floor.

Jordan in his youth and Curry in his youth who would you take?

Jordan was the greatest to ever do it because he could turn it off and on so easily. And he mostly kept it on. The only other player in my lifetime that had that same drive and motivation was Kobe.

People need to remember that Jordan had an average Basketball players body. He wasn’t given the freakish physical tools a Giannis or Lebron has. He worked day in, day out, getting cut from his freshman high school basketball team, until he became the absolute best.

I don’t see any single basketball player doing what MJ did in my lifetime. Gotta remember how popular he was and social media did not exist!

Depends on your definition of youth. If you're talking about when both came into the NBA - It's Jordan hands down. Jordan developed after the summer of his junior year in HS and just exploded after that...NCAA title as a Freshman with the game-winning shot, Olympic Gold Medalist, etc. Curry was still developing physically when he entered the NBA.

He's not even that. Recency bias.
The 3 point shot wasnt around when other shooters were around so I imagine that is the measuring stick.

MJ was so good, he got this dyed-in-the-wool high school fan to watch. A LOT.

If I was at a high-school game, I VCR'ed... There was very little social media to speak of (chatrooms and forums on the internet just about the whole of it). But there WAS the superstation WGN, which showed practically all of the Bulls' games. Early in MJ's career, Big-3 network TV wasn't showing much NBA, and most of that on tape-delay. MJ completely changed that during his career.

The documentary itself is amazingly well-done, too. ESPN has come a long way from the days of those cheaply made sports movies...

Who are the great shooters you are referring to who weren’t around when the 3 point shot was in effect? Rick Barry, Jerry West?

I remember watching Come Fly With Me as a kid thr night before every game.
The Last Dance is well done. The people vs OJ was my favorite sports documentary this one might take it over.

I guess it depends on what factors are we using to say greatest. Percentages, depth of shot, volume, if shoulder shakes, when shot is taken, with or without defenders, last 2 minutes.

More recently, i would rather compare Kawhi Leonard to Jordan. The way he dominated the playoffs last year was MJ like. You could tell he was the best player on the court, he would not accept losing, making shot after shot. I was telling my kids you see the way kawhi is playing right now? that's how MJ played every game of his career....thats what made him THE Goat!! And if you recall the year Kawhi sprained his ankle in the playoffs against the Warriors, he was about to beat arguably one of the best teams ever by himself!! The Warriors had no answer for him on both sides of the ball.

I'm talking about the six rings Vrs.. Curry's championship run.

I remember MJ winning championships when I was a kid, but did not know about his early days with the Bulls and their hardships.

I was most surprised by the "traveling cocaine circus" story during his rookie year. It compelled me to look up the roster on wikipedia and figure out who the ringmaster was. My guess is Quintin Dailey.

MJ is by far the best ever. His peers knew it from day he walked on the court. King James is a mental midget compared to the great Air Jordan.
Larry Legend knew it. So did Magic. That era has such class.

Quentin Dailey for sure. Man who brought down the Dons program and lives in infamy at war memorial.

If we are talking about someone who changed the game, Magic has to be included in this conversation. Who else played all 5 positions. Point guard at 6'9'. Rings to spare. Jordan was better, but Magic changed the Paradigm.

Here's wishing you great hoops

In the GOAT conversation, nobody should sleep on Kareem. Might be the greatest player ever, when you consider how dominate he was at all 3 levels (HS, College and Pros). Longevity (even if it was because of his house burning down and questionable financial advice), banning the dunk during his College playing days and then developing the most unstoppable shot ever, the sky hook. Also, I would dispute Ayalar on MJ having a average basketball body. World class athlete and killer instinct. Also, I don't believe Jordan was cut from his freshman team. I'm pretty sure that he tried out for varsity as a sophomore and didn't make the varsity team, but still played that year on the JV team.

no argument with that. Both magic and Larry also propelled the nba into greatness from the league it was prior to their arrival.

that cocaine circus was professional sports, that includes baseball and football.

hey you left off just kidding, curry is not built for that assignment,

Kareem won 3 of 4 times in High School, 3 of 3 times in college [which would have been 4 of 4 if he was allowed to play as a freshmen], made the NBA finals in 10 of his 20 seasons, and won 6 NBA championships.

LOL in today's world, you get cut means the kid's gonna transfer...

No doubt Kareem was for sure GREAT but we are talking about who is the greatest.

Kareem biggest problem was his ego. Just a very quiet and cerebral person. Great person and Player.
But MJ is MJ...

From a (regular season) advanced statistics point of view, Lebron will probably be at the top when all is said and done since he started his career at such an early age, will probably try to play long enough to have a chance to play with Bronny (2023-2024 season?) and could/can play all five positions.
Jordan has the more charismatic story of an average size/build basketball player with humble beginnings blossoming into the face of basketball when the sport first reached global recognition.

Kareem was clearly the superior player in both high school and college. Kareem's professional resume and on the court impact is on pars with Jordans. If Kareem had a more dynamic personality and a better marketing machine behind him, he might be considered the goat.

The good thing about advance statistics and comparing greatness or GOATness (lol), is that people who played (at a higher level) know that stats only tell a small part of the story.

You couldn’t build a more athletic and dynamic body than Jordan. Average build? What !!! 6”6 200... long arms.. massive hands. Incredible quickness and jumping ability. Kwahi Leonard today’s Version with size and length but can’t sniff Jordan’s vertical.
The more I watch old Jordan tapes the more I realize how much better he was than King James as a player and competitor.

Why is everyone talking about Lebron. I thought Draymond and stephanie were the best players in the nba.
