They were plagued by injuries this past season. They are loaded with talent, and if everyone is suited up next year, they will be very good. I would go so far as to say, their starting five next year are all potential D1 recruits. I'm really impressed with the Murphy brothers.
I wouldn't say last year was a disappointment for Modesto Christian. They had 8 freshman and sophs on the roster. Nobody lost as much talent as they did from the previous year (Ellis,Idehen,7 seniors). 2 of the top 2019s in Norcal Aaron Murphy and Dathan Satchel missed the entire season. They will be very good the next few years.
All 5 guys being D1 may be a stretch. In order for the program to really get all the way back they need at least one foreign kid. Local kids just not good enough by themselves to compete for a "Open Title". Although they could easily win a regular Division 1 title with the current roster. Shocking they could not land the better kids in the area. 2 years ago Manteca High had 3 kids over 6'8, in the past they would have been MC bound. Out of the 3, Wooten now is a High Major while the other 2 are headed Mid-Major/JC which is great for that area.
I would say youth and injuries put them behind the pack to start the year and then they got tough draws in the playoffs. Woodcreek in section quarterfinals and then Logan early in NorCals.
