Some good matchups in the SJS. Going to help to clear up some of the argument on who's #2 after SMS and start to give us a pecking order.

Antelope vs Woodcreek
McClatchy vs Laguna Creek

Laguna Creek is young and talented. Should be a major factor next year.

Carondelet is playing better -- and note they will get into NCS regardless of their record and will host a first-round game because they are the designated EBAL champion.

In what games are they “playing better”? They lost to SRV for the first time ever last night. They’ve lost 3 of their last 5, including a 53 point loss to Mitty. 1 of those 2 wins was a 1-point squeaker over a below average (11-12) Amador Valley team. They are pretty much at rock bottom for such a storied program. It’s a good thing they’ll be getting some help at NCS with a home game and seeding as a “league champion”.

CLET is now 10-11 and 3-1 in "league" with 2 games remaining vs Monte Vista and Cal. Conceivable could be 10-13 but with the highest SOS in the NCS D1. They will still qualify...curious to see where the committee seeds them. As of right now it looks like (even with 2 teams getn pulled to NCS OPEN) that D1 will fill out all 16 in the bracket.

I saw them play vs SMS and thought they looked not bad. They looked better than expected for me...I guess I wasnt expecting much but they surprised. Their biggest problem to me is I think they are an entire team of role players. In the past they always had an alpha or 2..this team is missing that. Of course if they had scheduled easier they would have a much better record. Give them a SOS of 10 instead of 19 and they probably sit at 15-6/16-5 (or something close to that) .

Regardless of who else they have played, they still lost to Mitty by 53, lost to SRV for the first time in school history, and only beat Amador Valley by 1 point. All within their last 5 games. I’m sure they are working on things, but this isn’t the CLet we’ve all come to know.

Antelope beat Woodcreek by 39 @Woodcreek last night!

Nice statement win for the Titans!

Guess Woodcreek isnt quite ready for primetime yet.

McClatchy vs Laguna Creek tonight....can LC keep pace in the battle for the SJS D2 top seed?

Even with a loss tonight, Laguna Creek will be a top 2 seed in D2 SJS and would be awesome to see an Antelope/LC final. Even though they don't have a very strong SOS, this Laguna Creek team is very good. They have good size, great ball handlers, good shooting and Ahrray Young will be next big thing in Sac. In their first game with McClatchy, I was very impressed with their poise down the stretch and calmly sank some huge key free throws at end of the game. They all play their roles very well together. Last year at McClatchy, they were smashed by 40..I dont expect that this time around! Will be packed house at McClatchy tonight, will be a fun one.

Crazy that Valley Christian isn't in the top 20 having gone 5-1 through 6 WCAL games. Would be hard for any team below the top 2 to do that. Seeing that SHC a team that is 2-4 in WCAL has a recent 1 point buzzer beating loss to Miramonte, a 4 pt loss to CN, a 9 pt loss to Salesian. SHC is probably the best 6-13 team in the state.

How you feel about Valley Christian depends on how feel about the WCAL in comparison to SJS.

Valley Christian lost to Del Oro, and its best wins are against teams in the WCAL. So, aside from Mitty, how does the WCAL compare to the good teams in Sacramento and Elk Grove? In years past, a no-brainer, but now the margin has narrowed.

Basketba11: I hope you went to the McClatchy/Laguna Creek game tonight for your insights. I was following Live Scoring on Maxpreps. McClatchy 46, Laguna Creek 45 Final in a nail-biter. Must have been a great game to watch. McClatchy's live scorer said there were about a 1,000 in attendance. What an atmosphere. A real close game. Laguna Creek led 22-18 at the half. McClatchy outscored LC 19-8 in the 3Q.

Yes I was at the game. McClatchy was very lucky to pull it out. In the first half, Ahrray Young picked up 3 fouls and their big girl also picked up 2-3 fouls. But McClatchy could not take advantage and missed tons of easy shots around the basket. They finally settled down in 2nd half and built a 10 point lead. But instead of playing smart basketball, they kept jacking up early bad shots and missed bunch of free throws. Laguna Creek made nice comeback and had chance to win, but was unable to convert. Great atmosphere and great crowd. Nail biter at the end. Antelopes coach was sitting right behind McClatchy bench.

Great to hear about the crowd and the game. Thanks for the report ...

I don't think they'll play again, as SJS doesn't have an Open. Hopefully that will happen soon, which would be a great bracket:

SMS
McClatchy
Antelope
Laguna Creek
Folsom
Franklin (Elk Grove)
Oak Ridge
Vanden

On MaxPreps live scoring last night, Laguna's Ahhrray Young got her 3rd foul two minutes into the 2ndQ, while Laguna's 6-1 big, Lesieli Manupule got her 3rd foul three minutes into the 2ndQ, but McClatchy couldn't take advantage of that and Laguna led by four points at halftime. Four minutes into the 4thQ, Laguna's Manupule fouled out, but Laguna still kept it close, due to McClatchy's poor free throw shooting.

McClatchy still has a tough league game against Monterey Trail next week. MT lost to Laguna by two points last week, and MT gave McClatchy a tough, close game at McClatchy a week ago until the 4thQ when McClatchy pulled away. MT's starting five are 5'9" and above, and play with aggressiveness and skill. MT will upset some teams in the postseason.
