It's still early but I think MV is three and the next three or four are toss ups. Schedule strength pushes some of those down if human beings pick the seeds.

They do usually tend to give league champs a leg up on the seedings as well, which if DLS, Freedom, & Dougherty all maintain their slim leads they may very well end up being the top seeds. Strength of schedule also plays a big role as does impressive wins and head to head (Freedom beat MV), but if you play a lot of good teams but lose all those games it may not help much. Dougherty has beaten 4 top 10 teams from the list above Dublin, Pitt, Castro Valley and Logan, so it's not like they haven't played anyone. Still a lot of great basketball to be played before the playoff seedings begin.

What is the info on DLS? Ratinho did not play against SRV and Peters did not play last night against Livermore. Sick, injured?

Resting them for Saturday game at Mater Dei against corona centennial. They will be sitting out more games. Coach does not want to burn them out for playoff run.

Strange..... I mean these are 16-18 year old kids. Think about it. You played 3 games in 1 day often over the summer. Go lighter in practice but this isn't the NBA where Pop gives Timmy D the night off. I don't get that at all. Injured or sick make sense or maybe only play 1/2 if its a blow out. Don't want to be the coach who has the starters in up 40 in the 4th and risk and injury but I'm not a fan of a DNP.

I think the seeds should be rated from best team to worst by those in the know. Dublin and Dougherty split head to head, and Dublin has a much tougher schedule based on Maxpreps. In the perfect world you want to see coaches challenge their kids instead of finessing things so I hope MV gets treated well and I hope Dublin, which is likely to take second in league, gets treated well also. It would say something for two second place teams (MV and Dublin if all goes to script) get higher seedings than one or more league champs. I think that system would push the coaches.

Regarding LL33 comment about DNP, I view it differently; it is good for the bench and for the team to play without regulars in controlled situations. Bench players step up, the coach can see different things. Look at how the Dub's injuries to starters challenged Walton and Kerr to shake things up without losing chemistry.

Point well taken infostreak. Wasn't thinking like that and you bring up a good point.

Thanks LL33.

the other thing I think about these days is the impact of wear and tear on the kids. Most pros and colleges spend more time on short, intense training sessions, much of it functional and with the ball. A lot of high school stuff is running and fitness etc. These kids are young so the injuries don't always show up right away, but they are accumulating. (Read the Ken Stabler article about concussions and CTE and how he didn't want his kids to play). I've heard of Varsity BBall players running ten miles at a time for "fitness" or for "toughness". Some of that I get as mental conditioning but in a long season such as De La Salles' where they play really good teams these kids wear out. So I'm glad the coach is sitting them when he can.

On these rankings/seedings, I think Heritage, Dougherty and Dublin all have pretty weak schedules and I think Logan and Pittsburg, if they somehow get matched up with any of those three, could make a betting man happy. Pitt lost to Dougherty by a point and took Dublin to OT and they beat Heritage. Logan took early losses in the schedule and had a discipline issue of some sort against Serra so sat most of their starters all of that game. Logan is basically undefeated after their sixth game except for the loss to Moreau.

Not sure about Ratinho but Peters sustained an ankle injury early in the SRV game. Saw the DLS/Livermore game the other night and their bench is deep. Several players can step up and contribute. #14 almost had a double-double as their 6th/7th man. #5 was solid, #11 hit a couple 3's and #33 also came off the bench and put up 9 pts in like 2 minutes. Never really seen that kid play much but he looked to spark the bench even though they were up by like 40pts. A lot of those 2nd/3rd string DLS guys could easily start on most varsity teams. Maybe Kuhle is trying to see how these kids step up when called upon?

Yeah, DLS is just really talented and deep. I mean its nice to see kids get playing time because you know its earned with how many hours they practice. I think at full strength DLS is a good +10 better than anybody else on this list.

DLS at full strength is the beast of the area, but this Peters/Ratinho lead group (3yrs) has underachieved every year possibly due to health issues. Peters has had leg injuries almost every year since I've been watching AAU ball..4th grade. They haven't won league, ncs d1, or appeared in the open. Swept by MV last year and beat by Lincoln the year before. Please remind me of the last time a first year coach took a team that has not won anything and ran the table-league, section, state. Honestly I do not remember that happening.

Brian Boteen and Srv,didn't win league but everything else as first year coach

SRV did not win D1 NCS last year, MV did.
They did however take the D1 Norcal and D1 State titles

True, and that state title run through the Ball brothers was pretty incredible, especially for a 1st year coach.

I think from what we've seen chino hills do this year you realize how good of a team SRV beat at HAAS. That was a special game.

Great point infofreak. DLS is the obvious choice to win the NCS D1. However, after DLS it is a crap shoot and any number of teams have a chance to make it to the semis. Still a couple of weeks to go in the regular season. It will be interesting.

Billybob, I concur, it will be interesting. After DLS it is pure high school basketball. Pretty cool, actually.
