True, but back in the day the playoffs just used to consist of league champs. If you came in 2nd or 3rd you were done. Then they’ve gradually grown larger and added more teams and divisions over the years, so that now even teams that finish under .500 feel cheated they can’t participate. It’s really the only bone the league champs get anymore besides the automatic qualifier. I’m ok with it, even though I’ve been screwed by it as well. The only reason I can see that league champs get a rewarded home game is to give a little more emphasis/importance to league play.
Not a very good reason, mind you, but a reason...
NCS really needs to get with the times on all fronts. Lets remove divisions and go competitive equity also.Stupid NCS rule, all league champs get 1st round home game. It’s makes no sense-s o your reward is home game but you play #1 seed..thanks. They did it to O’Dowd girls in D2, travel to Vallejo. They could put that team at 14 and play another non league champ and make 3 seed travel but instead make top seed travel.. doesn’t make sense
I dont like the idea of CE for the section. All we are going to do is cannibalize our best teams and the "small schools' that over acheive will get hosed by being placed in the higher division.NCS really needs to get with the times on all fronts. You make fair points. With everyone else going CE it's interesting NCS sticks with their flawed system. If you they are going to stay with D1-D6 go enrollment for publics. If they stick with divisions perhaps they take 8-12 teams to eliminate teams with losing records, especially if they play subpar schedules.I dont like the idea of CE for the section. It wont affect the "big girl/boy programs" as they all get put in the Open regardless.
Its the 3rd place (in league) team that goes 17-11 that would otherwise find themselves as a 2 seed in D3 that end up a 15 seed in D1 because of CE that gets hosed.
I mean wasnt the entire point of the Open was to get the blue blood Big Boy/Girl schools out of the sectuon so that the others would get a shot at a section crown? So why are we taking this even further?
At when does it come into play that maybe you just arent good enough? Why are we bending over backwords to help these teams that probably shouldnt be playoff teams to begin with? The NCS has lowered qualifying criteria so far that we have teams that have no business in playoffs, making the playoffs.
That's why our friend Ayalar was upset. His Stuart Hall team wasn't eligible for the NCS playoffs because they do eliminate teams with losing records. Some can still get in due to league or division records, but most do not partake. You make fair points. With everyone else going CE it's interesting NCS sticks with their flawed system. Yup.With Folsom and Riordan bowing out tonight, the NorCal Open selections become even more interesting.
Not really. We all knew ebal was loaded. I think NorCal hoops has tons of parity. Look at all the upsets already.Does it not bug anyone else that the entire NCS open division is EBAL teams except for Salesian?
Kinda like how the CCS open is all West Catholic League teams sans Santa Cruz?
More parody would be awesome.
