Great list of teams. My question is this...why in the world are they still not using a 30 second shot clock? A few years ago, i watched SMS and Mitty play and Tom basically went 4 corners midway through the 3rd quarter up by 10. Totally uncalled for. Watched some lower level games and saw the same thing. Up by a dozen, 4 corners. Why the rest of the USA won't step up is beyond me and if I were a coach from a state that plays with a shot clock, it's a total disadvantage.

I was at SMS game with mitty. Mitty refused to go out and guard SMS. They couldn't defend them. That was great strategy by SMS . I don't know what you're talking about.

I really think the point being is that you have high level programs coming in to play in this tournament throughout the nation that all use a 30 second clock. The 30 second clock encourages play the entire game

BTW, Mitty beat SMS the next two times they faced each other once with clock and the next without it.

Here's the issue: Many gyms in Arizona do not have a shot clock installed, so the TOC would have to buy portable shot clocks for each site. And then you have to pay someone to run it, and in Arizona, few people have ever run one. In some ways, running the shot clock is harder than running the regular clock, and if you have inexperienced people on the clock, the first quarter of the game is filled with stoppages while the refs go over and have them reset the shot clock.

This falls in the category of "things are never as simple as they seem."

Because it's not real basketball. They don't play that crap in California, college or pros. You call it a great game? what about if Mitty went up 2-0 then next possession held the ball for an entire quarter. Is that good strategy? Is that good basketball? Having one team HOLD the ball at half court for 2 minutes w/o even passing it is stupid/dumb hoops.

I'll get off my soap box....Great strategy? Okay they're playing within the rules..I'll give you that. But not good for the game. I remember Mitty REFUSED to go out and guard them and in the end, it cost them the game. SMS played within the rules and it worked to their advantage. From a fan perspective, it was boring AF to watch.

But why doesn't the NFHS mandate that ALL states comply and have shot clocks? Does't this seem like it would take care of things? I know it's expensive but Nike is making head over heels on registration, shirts, gate money. Seems chincy for them to do that.

Because most states don't want shot clocks, and NFHS, like CIF, is a federation and can't mandate anything from the top down. It has to be approved by the members of the federation.

interesting. I just did a google search and only 8 states have a shot clock??

Clay, any insight on the occurrence of a state that does not require shot clocks, but a section/ league self imposing that rule within that state?

Actually, doing the national rankings, we've run into this ...

Most states are not federations like California, so everything is top down -- which means the rules the states make apply to everyone, and the only way to deviate is to get approval at the state level, which is not only difficult, but highly unlikely.

Now some states have a different association for privates or charters, and in that case that association could adopt or allow the shot clock, but most of the time it's all or none.

We live in a bubble in California, in a lot of ways ...

Where is this list of Nike TOC attendees posted? Clovis West is not attending. I just checked their website and I don't see a list of participating teams. Is this last year's list?
