who will be the open candidates this year and who will get screwed by being
pulled into the open I see woodcreek, salesian, sheldon,O'Dowd and maybe freedom
I see them having a hard time coming up with a 8 team open bracket.

CCS Open finalists (Mitty or Bellarmine probably favorites going into WCAL play)... Dublin? Moreau if they run through their league?

Salesian just beat Freedom by 40+ how does Freedom belong in the Open?

That's because there aren't 8 teams deserving but I doubt the CIF cares.
Monterey is my sleeper in the CCS. I watched them beat an average Seaside team by 50 and beat a solid Salinas team as well. They will sweep Palma and go undefeated into playoffs. They do lack a big against premier teams but are athletic as hell with plenty of youth for years to come.
St Joe's
Dublin
Monte Vista
Folsom

CCS will take care of itself with the post-season Tournament.

St. Joe's most likely won't have a strong enough schedule overall to get in the Open, even if they end up with just the one loss they have now. League too weak to keep up their strength-of-schedule ratings, despite the fact they've played a tough slate so far.

Interestingly, they are playing tomorrow night in the American Division (2nd-highest of five, I think) final... against old rival St. Patrick-St.Vincent. The Pilots beat 'em in OT in the finals of the DLS tournament three weeks ago. I understand St Pat's had three or four guys not there for that one, due to football, so maybe the result will be different this time. Or maybe not... :)

I only mentioned freedom because as of this week they were the number one ranked
team in ncs on maxpreps ahead of Monte vista, dublin and salesian (before salesian blasted them)
and if they win there league it would be 3 years
In a row they would be league Champs.

I agree Larry with those selections although I am not sure o'dowd is better then
dublin at this point

It needs to be 4 teams. Here is who I have.

Salesian
Sheldon
Woodcreek
ODOWD
WOW. Larry you are a fan now?. You were the one who said Sheldon was dead for along time. But as usuual you talk out ypur arse!!!!!. An ear hustler amd imternet reader to act like ypu know something. You havent seen any of these teams even play this year. You peeked into Sheldon gym last year at the Adidas challenge ,an 8 game event, Only to watch Whitney play. You quockly exited the gym with all the good games to follow because you ruffled some feathers with talkinh crap about kids from some of the upcoming teams. SMH

Your an idiot. Question was who are the open teams. I answered. Been over to the St Hope Classic all week with my kids. Probably check out the champ game tnite. Two good teams. Very few people get to more games than I do across the region. I know a lot about the game and 99% of the people here know that.

HEAT how is Darius Nelson doing? Say hi for me if you see him. real class act

Bones, good call on Dublin. There backcourt is legit.

I hope the norcal committee will get a clue and only have 4 teams in the open every year. Absolutely no reason to have any more than 4 and give some elite teams a chance to win other divisions.

Completely agree Vukovich. It needs to be 4 and only 4.

Careful with the name calling Larry. Did you or did you not say Sheldon was dead for a long time?.
There you go again talking trash about people

Heater, you were nowhere to be found after Sheldon came up to Folsom and got romped in the football playoffs this year? Now your back when the basketball team gets it going?

C'mon Heat! LOL

I have to admit H.E.A.T. as an avid Sheldon supporter does have a point. I do recall a lot of negative comments about Sheldon and a proclamation that they would be buried and forgotten about. Odd to see such a statement and then quietly slip them in the top four, without owning up to the previous statements, which he was clearly wrong about. I too, have seen a lot of basketball and even coached a fair share of it, at many levels from middle school to Juco. Larry does come across as the only, or smartest basketball mind on the board. Now, I don't know if he has/had a beef with Sheldon, but if you know as much as you proclaim to know, you would know that Sheldon will ALWAYS be among the elite, year in and year out because of what they do in that program. They are tough, always defend, and in high school, guard play is king. Perhaps what should have occurred rather than mudslinging, was an acknowledgment to the point Heat made, which is on point. Now, you be gentle with me Larry! Lol

Sheldon had a lot of bad seeds and I was ridiculed for calling them out even though I was right. Not talking about the teams with the 2 kids at SDSU. I liked them and they played hard. No beef with anybody their. Don't have any ties but when I see bad seeds I make no bones about it. I'm not a fan of glorifying bad people. Coach Peterson from Wash has a saying... He wants to recruit my kinda guys.

Applaud sheldon for playing a very good schedule this year. It will help them come league. Same goes for Woodcreek. At this point Woodcreek is still the team to beat IMO. I've seen them 2x and will check them out a couple more times in league.

I hear you Larry. From experience as an educator/coach maybe the coaches at Sheldon just try their best with ALL their kids. Some turn out worse than we'd like, like the couple you mention, and some turn out like the kids doing well at San Diego State. You're right that we shouldn't glorify bad people, but there is a very fine line between kids who make it and kids who don't. I've done things I'm not proud of and easily could have been labeled a "bad person" if I had to pay the ultimate price for youthful bad choices. Fortunately, I was allowed to mature and become something I can be proud of. Let's just say I respect the Sheldon program for trying their very best to help all their student athletes become positive, educated men.

Im sure you can find some good and bad stories at most high schools. As ive always stated i will never talk negatively about any kids. I will list some successes though. All these were basketball players.at Sheldon

Larry, i know we get wiser as we age but you seem to forget certain things that you say about certain people. I will say your hatred for Sheldon has lessened but you did say some very negative things about alot of Sheldon players and coaches.

i was gonna say you left darius nelson off the list....not knowing he was in trouble for home invasion a few years back...too bad, that kid could score.

Joey Rollings doesn't get mentioned in conversations for top coaches in the area and he should. I've had my doubts in the past, but year in and year out, Sheldon has a team of grinders who really compete. Starting with that Allen class and moving forward.

Some of that is the type of kids you have but a lot of that has to do with setting a tone for the program.

Joe Rollings is in his 40's and has somewhere in the neighborhood of 550 wins as high school coach.. He might now a little something about the game. Haters will be haters but you cant argue results

How long has Rollings been at Sheldon, where else has he coached?

I have been following these boards since we moved to Sacramento in 2011. I didn't ever think that I would be posting on here, but I think the truth needs to come out.

First, let's just call it as it is. Larry is an idiot who thinks calling out kids is acceptable behavior. There are plenty of players in the Sacramento area that act like idiots on and off the court. Your criticism has been almost exclusively Sheldon players. It wouldn't matter how many games you go see, you will still be an idiot and your opinion on here is nothing more than your over inflated ego. You either state the obvious or when you do make a prediction and get it wrong like you did with the Sheldon program your incapable of admitting that you're wrong. You need to grow up and quit calling people out while hiding behind a screen name.

Every school has its good and bad apples. At the end of the day, we are talking about young student athletes. Sheldon has a good basketball program. They are one of the best in town, even in their short history.

They are also not the only program to experience tragedy. Every school at one time or another experiences tragedy. From the elite to the cellar dwellers.

Really hope they keep the open at 4 teams because we clearly don't have 8 quality teams
for the open this year.Sheldon, woodcreek, salesian and o'dowd or Dublin that's
all I can see.

Its all about the money and the Cif will find at least 2 more teams to put in the open bracket.
