Open Playoffs! Campo hosts San Leandro

Bout a half-hour til game time here at the Cougars’ Lair...

Being that I’m on the recovery from a nasty cold, I am sitting wayyyyyyyy up in the far corner of the gym, far far away from the potential of spreading this bug to and Cougars players, coaches, or parents...

To the game... Cougs are now 21-5, ranked #3 in the section, while San Leandro sits at 19-7, and ranked #8 in the section.

SL is in the same league with O’Dowd and was beaten twice, double digits each time. Campo lost to O’Dowd in the MLK showcase at St. Mary’s College... In that loss, Campo star Aidan Mahaney had what might have been his worst shooting night since his age had only one digit in it... Advantage has to go to Campo.

Both teams also faced Weston Ranch, with Campo beating ‘em twice very early in the season before they began to gel while SL lost to them a bit later in the year... Slight advantage Campo, but really more an “incomplete” since Weston Ranch changed so much throughout the season.

Down 21 minutes now after this rambling mess.... Bring on the HOOPS!

SL with a midrange J... 5-2. Carter returns with a midrange of his own... Cougs get a stop... Aidan for 3... BOOM! 7-5 Cougs.

Carter BLOWS BY his man for a layup! 12-7.

Aidan with a terrific drive, fouled, flips it in! 14-7 pending FT, which goes... 15-7.

SL travels, forced by tough D after he starts to pass, thinks better of it...

Max Weaver fouled on a drive... FT’s split. 16-7.

2 straight unforced SL turnovers now...

Callas with a strong offensive board, hacked... FT’s swish. 18-7.

Aidan with sweet crossover, change of speeds, jumper... SL scores, but Carter scores right back. 22-9.

SL fouled, FT’s both go. 22-11.

SL scores, nice move and jumper... 22-13.

NICE series of moves by Carter... Layup goes. SL can’t get a shot off before the quarter buzzer... 24-13. That was pretty frickin’ brilliant basketball, if ya ask me...

And again, nasty Radell offensive board... 28-13.

Nice SL move for a layup... 28-15.

Carter fouled on a shot, FT’s go. 30-15.

Aidan for 3!! 33-15, Cougs are a runaway train right now.

Anyway, while I was out, SL finally started to rally a little. 36-24 now. 2:40 left in the half.

Nice hook shot in the lane by SL.... last shot try for Cougs.

Aidan try, three other tries on putbacks... Finally Aidan banks it in at the buzzer! 39-26

Aidan starts things off in the 3rd with a nifty up-and-under reverse layup...

SL scores right back... Radell inside... 43-28.

SL sinks a lonnnnng 3 at the shot clock buzzer... Callas scores inside... 45-31.

SL drives baseline and scores. 45-33.

4:49 left now... Nice pass, Callas to Darell for 2. 47-33.

SL drive, fouled, scores... FT goes. 47-36.

Aidan nice baseline drive and floater... 49-36.

SL with a drive of their own. 49-38... Callas hook shot goes... 51-38. Steal, drive, kick to Aidan for 3, nothing but net! SL scores, 54-41.

Two GORGEOUS passes lead to a Coug layup, play of the night thus far... 56-41. I think is was Chase Bennett who scored, I got screened out.

Carter with yet another series of stops and starts leading to a midrange J for 2... 60-44.

SL fouled on a 3. 2 of 3 go. 60-46.

Carter’s got ‘em on roller skates tonight... Makes another floater. 62-46.

EASY drive by Weaver, right down Broadway! 64-46.

NOBODY can stay in front of Carter tonight! 66-46, but SL scores right back... 66-48.

Drive again by.... Guess who? Carter! Misses layup, but fouled... FT’s split. 67-48.

Another SL score, time out. 67-52, 2:38 left...

Paging the San Leandro bus driver...

SL starting to look pretty frustrated now.

SL steals, sinks a 3... 67-55, but looking rather cosmetic with just 1:35 left.

Cougs don’t seem to be dealig all that terrifically with SL’s physical, desperate play.

Both semi final games in the open should be great matchups NCS would have been much better served to have had these games back to back at one venue. They would have been a huge draw I have salesian over o'dowd by 7 and Dublin over campo by 5.
