Open: Sheldon vs. Sierra Canyon

It was a good effort Sheldon! Really impressed they almost took out a mercenary AAU team basically

Sheldon is 1-11 this quarter and have scored six points. Game was right there, but 3 pointer and 3 point play flipped it

In interview, Cassius Stanley said they have 8 transfers on the Sierra Canyon team? I guess the open division kind of makes up for that, but that just doesn't seem right. Maybe they should have a division for teams that have 3 or more transfers in a year.

Sheldon played hard and were impressive. Just not enough left at the end. Great season.

Congratulations to Sierra Canyon and Sheldon. Sheldon has been on top in Northern California for the last few years, it’s been a great season and I am proud for everyone that’s associated with their program. I looking forward to their future Seniors next year. Go Huskies!

I feel programs like Sierra Canyon are beatable even with 12 transfers. It takes the discipline equal to a San Antonio Spurs Philosophy. Basketball fundamentals to the Nth degree. Fewest mistakes, make free throws, play smart all 32 minutes. Look at the March Madness NCAA tournament, a lot of 5 Star stacked teams are on vacation already.

Didn’t get the offense in the fourth quarter.
No movement, just the ball handler trying to take the defender off the dribble while everyone else stands and watches.

That tall frontline gets helped by that stagnant scheme and helping on those drives is so much easier, thus a big part of a six-point fourth quarter.

I think they got some really good looks, shots just didn't fall. Drive and dish was there it's part of the uptempo style of play. 4 min stretch where Sheldon couldn't score, was more in my opinion just missing shots. Last minute or so, Sheldon got desperate and attacked with no purpose. But hats off to both teams hell of a game, and I thought Sheldon represented the north very well.

"Evidence that multiple students have transferred or changed schools to participate in a particular sports program."

-CIF Transfer Rule Book

8 transfers. I'm not even a Sheldon fan, but 8 transfers into a school that costs close to 35K a year. It's funny how Stanley even said after the game that they were a glorified AAU team.

What else would you call 8 transfers! Honestly Sierra Canyon belongs in a league with Hillcrest Prep and Prolific Prep.

Proud as heck that Sheldon battled. Unless things change though Sierra Canyon is just going to rampage CA High School basketball again next year.

I dot know about rampaging ca hoops? They lost to bishop montgomery, then won in triple ot in sections and won in ot in state. In the state game I would say BM lost the game Sierra didn't win it. I make this point because BM is an excellent hs basketball but they are legit, they had a 5 star guy and a bunch of good role players that worked hard. They run solid sets and work hard on defense they don't just go out and run and gun. I make this point because yes they ended up winning it all but the top tier programs such as bishop, sheldon, Mater dei gave them competition and even won games against them! They were a far cry from running rough shot over the state in my opinion!

Hard not to root against an all-star AAU team like Sierra Canyon. Just think if Marvin Bagley III hadn't reclassified he would have also been on the court last night! I thought that Sheldon did NorCal proud by representing and making Sierra Canyon hard work for the victory - props to them!

I hate to go there but the officiating in these high school championship games is brutal. Lots of ticky tack fouls and I am not sure why they don't let the players decided the game instead of whistles.

I thought the game would be close. I had SC pulling away late and that is pretty much what happened. Sheldon played too hard and was too skilled to get beat bad. To be honest all the games were pretty close even though the boys didn't fare so well. I thought PV was way underrated. They could play with a lot of Norcal top 10.

Wonder where these kids will end up next year. Isn't this school 2 or 3 for Stanley?

Stanley is going to play one more year at Sierra Canyon, then play his mandatory 1-year at UCLA or Kentucky or Duke, then he's going top 5-10 in the NBA Draft that following year. Athleticism like that doesn't just grow on trees.

Unfortunately for us Norcal folks, that Sierra Canyon team is very young. They are pretty much returning everyone next year, and I think Bagley's brother is also going to join the team as well.

I could see a couple good Socal teams or maybe a team from another state giving Sierra Canyon some problems, but I think it will be very difficult for any Norcal team to beat them next year.
