What a game! This lived up to the hype and equalled last year’s game. First off, I like the new overtime rule of starting at the 25 yard line instead of the 10 yard line. Gives the both teams a chance to utilize their attributes and play their games. Also takes the advantage away from double wing running teams. So kudos to the NCS for the first good decision they’ve made.
The quarterback matchups lived up to the hype as well. Both quarterbacks made some really good throws and both made some really errant ones. Butterfield took a massive hit in the second quarter and he definitely was rattled by the linebacker spies Pittsburg put on him. Butterfield under threw a wide open running back in overtime with pressure coming on him hard. Johnson for Pitt definitely had it the hardest. The Pitt offensive line was getting bull dozed all night long and eventually Johnson went down in the 4th quarter. Great part was Santino Chavez coming off of the bench to tie the game and lead the offense to a game winning field goal in overtime.
I also have to give a bunch of credit to the Pittsburg defense. I don’t think anyone expected them to do what they did last night. That looked like the Pittsburg defense I have seen the past few years that seem to be coming from all directions.
At the end of the day I think these two will see each other again. That is unless Liberty doesn’t get the Bartley kid under control. He is definitely running all over the Liberty staff and I was disappointed by Partridge and staff honestly. Heard from numerous folks last night that his antics are what lead him to leave Pittsburg. Walters let something similar happen his last two years at Liberty so hopefully Partridge figures it out.
Oh ya, I like the new home stands at Liberty. Way better view than the older ones bleachers. Upgrades are similar to those at Antioch. What was ridiculous was shutting down the area around the school and having homecoming the same night as the game of the year. Parking was horrendous!
