58-57 Final score. Riordan makes the final score a nail biter by missing it's free throws in last minutes of game. Crusaders led by Stansberry and soph James Chun who led the 4th quarter charge with several 3's, elbow jumpers nifty assists and ball handling. Jason Smith dominated defensively in the paint and held his own against the MV bigs with several blocked shots and rebounds. Crusader D held MV at bay in the 4th creating several turnovers with their aggressive smothering defense. Team starting to get in sync in preparation for the WCAL grind.

What impresses me about Coach Buck is his confidence and defiance of any opponent his team faces. Just hearing him shouting where his players should be on D and constantly be on the attack was impressive to see against a solid team like Monte Vista. His players buy into his coaching because he's earned the right as he's been there competing at a championship level during his days on the '90 Crusader team that was State runner up to Mater Dei and apprenticing under Forslund. One of Coach Buck's best coaching to date. I'd put Rapp and Coach Buck as the WCAL top coaches with Kennedy and Motil right behind them.

Agreed. I think he's very under rated among coaches in the WCAL n CCS because his teams haven't captured the elusive titles. But he has done more with less during his tenure there...did Galindo play? I think he may be the key to this team. I know he sat out a recent loss and last year they struggled once they lost his peremiter threat. He enables them to spread the floor, which opens up the middle for drives by Standsberry.

1DNA, Yes. Galindo played. He was in during that Crusader 4th quarter run - giving them 3 perimeter playmakers. Appeared a bit rusty as he's rounding into form. Jason Smith and Daniel Norman rounded out the five. Stansberry and Chun handled the pg duties. Newcomers Josh Boone and 6-4 Moises Sandoval were in the rotation as well. Jake Rassam was in street clothes last night.

I didn't see a box score. Any individual stats? Riordan is a bit underrated by Maxpreps but that will change.

It could be me, but with teams playing less solid zone defenses, a team like Riordan may stay competitive. The addition of Chun as a threat provides additional options. Yes, Coach Buckner he has done more with less. What also keeps him around is he is a really nice person. As we all know, the WCAL is a grind and finds a way to expose your weaknesses.

Had MV in that one looking at past records - very impressive quality win for the Crusader's.

Riordan I understand played an outstanding game against a much solid MV team. MV struggled to penetrate their zone defense. Main guys were 2016 Eddie Stansberry and 2017 Austin Fadal who both had at least 25 points each. Both had at least 4 threes each. Heard good stuff about 2018 Chun. Anyone has additional information on him?

2018 Chun played frosh last season so he can get playing time. He was brought up to Varsity during the playoffs last season and saw spot minutes since Galindo was out with a knee injury. Apparently, he opened up a lot of eyes this summer as he made a good impression during the hoops camps/aau tourney season. He's 6-0 with an strong athletic build, high basketball IQ, very good ball handler/penetrator, creative passer and perimeter game. Can create space for his jumper and is not afraid to take it to the hole and get contact. He had a nice 3 pt play as he drove to the bucket, made the shot and 1.

Love the step back mid range J. Obviously a highlight film, but if he can kncok those down consistently and get to the rim, he'll have a good run at Riordan. His range will expand as he gets stronger as well. Thanks for the link JXXIV.

Impressive, consistent step back shots. I like his release. Consistent and looks effortless. Lots of potential and upside. Hope to watch him play a few games live. Appreciate the info jordan24.
