34-29 Riordan. end of 1st. Yes! End of 1! Defenses can't stop each other!

McAfee 50+ TD TD catch. 40-29 Riordan 7:45 left in half

Riordan TD scramble of a Serra fumble into end zone. 46-29 Riordan 6:13 left in half

Riordan is by far the better team. Serra is so undisciplined and turnover prone. You will never win games like that. One hit wonder riordan is for real.

This is amazing to follow via texts. My phone is blowing up lol

46-35 Riordan @ the half. Game has everything - KO returns for TDs , long passes for TDs, great runs for TDs, fumble scramble for TDs. Special teams and turnovers are the game's influencers today. 6 different Crusaders have scored TDs. Riordan to get 2nd half kickoff as they deferred

60+ yard TD run by Sanders. 2 pt no good. Smh. 52-35 Riordan 4:11 in 3rd

80 yard TD catch by AVH on 2nd flea flicker called by Fordon. 59-35 Riordan 1:27 left in 3rd

The WCAL moving into the 21st century?

No more 3 yards and a cloud of dust 10-7 grinders. Actually will be beneficial for the league to move on from the LBJ era of football.

Congrats to Coach Kevin for "letting the boys loose".

Pupil schooling the Mentor - Are big scores because nobody wants to tackle for fear of neck injury? ( JK )

Solid Crusader win. Game with the Bells at Terra Nova will be a battle. Gotta say right now Riordan will win. Too many weapons as evidenced by the different players who scored today.

Padres had 5 TO's to the Crusaders 1. Bells will be more disciplined and take care of the ball in what I see as a physical battle (unlike the track meet vs Serra ). Boys from Phelan on a mission.

I meant to post in The Serra vs. Riordan thread earlier this week but I didnt have time to.

I was going to say what is now evident which is that Riordan is legit. I'll now say the other interesting thing that I was going to say which is that Riordan is the best team to come out of San Francisco in a really long time.

I coach football in The PAL and we saw Riordan this summer at a passing camp. Their size, physicality and team speed is friggin ridiculous and to top that all off it was very evident that Fordon has 110% control of those boys. I followed that Serra team that lost to Del Oro in The D1 sectional game closely and knew a handful of kids on that team personally. This Riordan team, in my opinion, is better than that Serra team. That Serra team was incredible but this Riordan team is far more physical than that Serra team and that's saying a lot because that Serra team had some straight dogs on both sides of the ball.

I see them winning The WCAL and making a serious push for a SBG bid.

That would be history making for a School from the City playing in a SBG game. Not out of the realm of possibility as these boys are legit. Go Crusaders!

Now the best part of my post will be not to call our posters for the most post line this week..." Serra has something to play for" if the did the coaches at Sera missed passing that memo around.

Riordan had more heart, better skilled players and better adjustment. It truly is a statement about the last two HC at Riodan and I will add...SHAME ON YOU!!! If you can't bring self esteem to young men step coaching l.

Now on to today. I want to give Serra and Riordan thanks for giving the fans the best 1st Qtr in WCAL history.

And I want to thank all of the Riordan Fans, Suppprters and alumni great thanks for showing up. It was a great day in SF football history. Only a few of us dreamed of 5-0, but the Riordan way is to include all that jump on band wagon...because....

We Are One....We R Riordsn!!!!

Amazing!!! What changed? It has a number of years since Riordan was a contender for league champ - and now it appears it could happen this year.

A new coach, an experienced offensive line, skill players that have been on varsity since their sophomore year. They have a coach that actually utilizes their speed. There has been talk about the WCAL boring offenses, me included and the Mitty win and Riordans play is a testament that things are starting to change in a good way. This will allow them to compete at a higher level come regional time!! Congrats Riordan.

Add that the new head coach, although an outsider, brought in many alumni that were on the team that last won CCS in 2007 in O-Line Coach, Ryan Jones (former SJSU OL), DC, Danny Curtin and QB/WR Coach Darius Bell (former UCLA qb/h-back) to go along with holdover /alum Jaysen Morris and lastly coach Martinez who prepped at Ohio power Cleveland-St. Ignatius and went on to play college ball. This staff is young, energetic, creative and have themselves experienced success on the field. HUGE difference that previous regimes that came after Langridge.

Jordan,

Very true statement on the make up of the staff. Fordon brought in a staff who believes in wining. But the first step what the Three Amigos in Joe C, Vic A, & Mike G. Who saw a vision of. Building a future for young men to reach there goals. It takes guts and fortitude to take the needed steps to make that happen.

I think what we all are swing in everyone in the same page....giving youngmen the right tools....

We Are One...We R Riordan

Observations from the game @ CCSF. Great turnout from both School's students, alumni and families. Looked to be 1,500-2,000. Serra's Leki Nunn and Kelepi Lataimua and the Padre offense are scary good! Of the 5 Padre turnovers, 4 were forced, so credit needs to be given to the hard hitting Crusader defense. Of those 4 forced turnovers at least 1 or 2 could have been prevented if the runner simply went down not trying to gain extra yardage - instead exposing the ball to get stripped. There could have been 2 more turnovers, but they were recovered.
Coaching: I believe this is the first time a pupil beat his teacher from the DeLa coaching tree? Walsh had a very good game plan, but Coach Fordon one upped him with some (as former prez GW Bush would say - "trickeration" lol). A 60+ yard flea flicker for TD from Luavasa to Verba-Hamilton not once, but a gutsy call to do it again in the second half! Wow! Crusader passing game was on fire with 5 TDs thrown by Jacky Luavasa (ties school and WCAL record) and AVH breaking the School and WCAL record for TDs caught in one league game with 4. Crusaders had several offensive weapons on display as Raymone Sanders had some a nice day of 100+ yards rushing with 2 TDs and a 70 yd KO ret from LB/FB Caston. The unsong offensive hero of the day had to be Cedric McAfee. Not only did he have a nice catch and run 50 yd TD, he came up with a HUGE first down catch late in the game to seal it for the win by keeping possession and running down the clock.
Not sure many defenses would have contained the Padres or Crusaders the way they played today. I had a feeling it would be a high-scoring track meet style game with the game being played on CCSF's turf, but not this huge.
Lots of fans in the (both Riordan and Serra) stands were saying this is the same team from last year that finished 1-9, what happened? Congrats to Coach Fordon, his staff and the team. Well earned win!

Btw. I want to thank Coach Mike Langridge on being there today to support programs he was involved in. The trophy handed out today was generated by him to represent fair sport play by all bays schools in the Pennisila. I think it should be remaned to Langridge game. It was him who bought s era of wining to both programs

Yes. I see the overall Athletics dept improving and having sustained success based on the Admin's support and AD Mike Gilleran's guidance and direction. There sure were a lot of kids wearing their youth football jerseys (sf warriors, sb rams, etc.) seen at today's game. What a perfect game for these kids to see the offensive fireworks today!

Thanks for posting PAL! Looking for your post game analysis along with Rem26 too on the other thread. You and Rem have been spot on, so curious your take on Riordan now going forward.
