Rocklin vs oak Ridge

Jeffrey needs to get some college interest. He's too good not to get some small D1 offers.

I see him getting some offers as a receiver. He is great. Although his work as a QB has actually turned out great. He can really throw it!

Book is great. He made several 'next level' plays tonight with both his arm and legs. He's legit. Although they played well tonight, not sure he's got the supporting cast and defense to have a truly special season. But Ian is very poised and a treat to watch. He'll be tough to contain for any defense.

Couple of Thoughts from this one:

Oak Ridge won decisively on both lines. They got good pressure with the front four on Floyd and were able to lean on the ground game when Rocklin left the middle of the field open. Rocklin is without Chase Hatada.

Rocklin's WRs got little to no separation. Almost every throw was contested. I think the Oak Ridge defense is good, but shouldn't be able to do that.

At times, Oak Ridge's offense looked great. However, they also had their slow patches too. It was alarming they couldn't close out the game better. The Trojans did lose Pittman early in the game.

Coming into this week, I had the SFL as follows:

Del Oro
Folsom
Oak Ridge
Granite Bay
Rocklin

Now, I would have it like this:

Folsom
Oak Ridge
Del Oro
Rocklin
Granite Bay

I think OR separated themselves tonight as a top level team in SJS. There defense stepped up big time and they have a major weapon in Book. He can hurt you both on the ground and in the air. This kid continues to impress me. OR is definitely a notch below Folsom at this point and would need a bad game on Folsom's part and a stellar performance to pull off an upset. Streak any word on Pittman? I forgot they played nearly the entire game without there best back. Rocklin just didn't have much energy tonight. It was an absolute madhouse on the OR side. Great atmosphere.

Still baffles me that people though DO was better than Folsom. I put it out there in the pick em that this was NUTS. I have seen the two teams play extensively and knew it wasn't a good match up for DO.

Folsom's defense was unreal last night.

Looks like Folsom is the real deal once again. It's amazing to see that year after year even after graduating top quarterbacks they keep being at the top of the Section.

Larry said it best a while back when he mentioned "the program they have built."

He is completely spot on. I was thinking about this last night at the game when the Folsom Junior Bulldogs came out before the game with their cheerleaders. They really have built a program. Troy Taylor has worked with the Junior Bulldogs program to ensure they are running a similar scheme and teaching the same things as the high school is. The program has become a little farm system for future Folsom Bulldogs. I have been out to the Junior Bulldog games and I can tell you there is a lot more talent coming up through the ranks.

Now, I am not saying Folsom is going to win a state title every year. But, they have built an impressive program from the ground up. That is what it takes these days to stay on top. Especially when you are not a private school with top talent coming in every year from all over ;)

That's great. It's good to see that some high schools have that "farm system" of course some do it better than others. Vacaville also has a similar program but obviously is not as good as Folsom.

Vacaville has a good program. I think all public schools have ups and downs which are dependent on many things.

Yeah, folsom is the real deal. Its getting to the point if you start on that HS team you have a chance to play at the next level whether JC, D2 or D1. That isn't exaggeration either. Crazy how good the football is up here.

I agree with the order for the most part, but, honestly, I think Woodcreek might fit in somewhere when it's all said and done. Admittedly, I have not seen them play in person as yet, but they took OR to OT and looked to be improved. Honestly, the Rocklin team I saw play last night isn't beating any SFL team not named Nevada Union. The Thunder will have a shot at redemption and separating themselves from Del Oro next week. They lose that game and they've got Woodcreek coming off a bye the very next week. This season could get UGLY fast. I sure hope Chase Hatada can rescue his team.

Weird season so far. Rocklin beats Del Campo by 19 (for their only loss), but loses to Whitney who just lost to the Cougars last night. And Whitney put up a much better fight against OR (losing by 2) than the Thunder did. Go figure.

The above is a prime reason why daisy chaining doesn't work. This game always has been and always will be about how teams matchup against each other. How teams fared against like opponents doesn't tell you anything.

IMO, much of the credit should go to Troy Taylor. He's the best QB coach in the area and among the best in the country and he's a pretty darn good OC to boot. He didn't fare too well as Folsom's standalone HC (.500 record), but when primarily focused on the QB and offense, he's helped take that program to another level. They went from an ok program under Richardson to a stellar one once he first started getting involved back around 2009ish and then was officially named Co-HC a few seasons ago.

I remember when he first became OC for Casa Roble back in 1994. He immediately turned Devon Nicholson and the Rams offense into top-tier passing attack. If I was the AD for Sac. State, I'd be on the phone trying to get that guy into my program. I firmly believe that Troy could be an excellent QB coach and OC at the next level.

Shhhhhhhhhhh! Don't let that get out.
