Ok, we now have the SJS open division teams figured out, especially that 2nd team SJS team that everybody from other sections always complains about that never develops.

Folsom beat McClatchy last night 72-50 in McClatchy's gym. McClatchy had an excellent 1st quarter leading by 8 points. Then Folsom started to full-court press and that's when McClatchy fell apart, got out of its rhythm, made numerous turnovers, and Folsom capitalized. Folsom lead by 8 at halftime, and increased the lead to 20 after the 3rd quarter. Game was over by then. McClatchy junior center/forward/guard, Kamryn Hall did NOT play due to leg injury. No crutches, but one leg was on a rolling cart. Definitely made a difference in the game, as Hall is the tallest starting player on the McClatchy team and would have defended against Shayley Harris of Folsom.

So Folsom (9-1) has now beaten both West Campus and McClatchy by 36 and 22 points, respectively, Elk Grove (3-5), Antelope (7-1), Christian Brothers (5-2), and Franklin (7-3), and with a "two-point stinker loss" to Pleasant Valley of Chico (5-3, Maxpreps #39 state rank).

Looks like Folsom will/should be the likely choice to be the 2nd team, behind St. Mary's of Stockton to be the Open Division candidate from the SJS.

I agree totally cptmycpa! Folsom is finally ready to step into the limelight and could make a deep run in playoffs. I would want to see Section final of Folsom vs St Marys. Yes I know St Marys has won 10 straight Section titles, but hoping someone can give them some competition finally in SJS. This year's Folsom's girls team is for real and has proved in with good wins. Obviously want to see it continue at WCJ Platinum division next week. They have size, ball handling, shooting, play together, high IQ, and senior leadership with star power. I knew the addition of Harris would help them, but who is the little blonde point guard? She is very impressive, barely over 5 feet tall. That girl is a freshman? No way. Plays with confidence and poise, terrific little ball handler and shooter, definitely difference maker for that team to take pressure off Forbes so she can go to the wing instead at times. Good luck to them next week at WCJ. They definitely have showed they belong in Open this year for SJS.

They have no bigs, I think that is the main problem. They have no size at all! They basically have 5 guard lineup. Plus not too much depth. They are still very good team, but in my opinion cannot compete with the elite teams. Might struggle next week in WCJ Platinum division as well.

Sjs sends 2 to the open, Mitty and Pinewood out of the Ccs, Ncs 1,2,3 winners. What teams are battling for the 8th spot?

Maybe Pleasant Valley? They should have a really good record by the end of the season and a win over Folsom.

And then I looked at MaxPreps and saw they have 3 losses already. So probably not.
Pleasant Valley of Chico is in the North Section (Div. 3), not Sac-Joaquin Section. Pleasant Valley is in the same league with Enterprise (also North Section, Div. 3). Those two teams play two games in league play on 1/12 and 2/1. Enterprise is currently 10-0 (Maxpreps state rank #12) and beat Sac High. Enterprise could be the Open candidate for the North Section.

Has there ever been a team from the North Section make the open?

Nope. No North Section teams. Probably will never happen. Enterprise would need to play a more competitive schedule against Bay Area power teams. Obviously and to their advantage, they would go much farther in Division 3.

Folsom looks to be the team that will reach the SJS finals opposite SMS (early to pencil in teams, but fun to do). The 8th team is hard to figure out (depth hasn't shown up this year).

If west campus wins SJS d4 i honestly think they are 8th team... I understand they have been getn beat up pretty good lately BUT they won D4 state championship last year and do we all remember this EXACT scenario in the SJS a few yrs back with Brookside Christian ? Another team that had some blowout losses also but still was placed in the OPEN to get creamed by MM.
Dont forget they made the state final the yr before also before winning D4 section the next.

I was thinking West Campus too. It might have to be because I struggle to find four from the NCS. It will be moon walk practice for teams looking for avoid seeds 7 and 8

Do you think out of the NCS its the section winners from 1,2,3? I can't see them throwing St Joes in there.

Cardinal Newman looks pretty good (D3) and it wouldn't be out of the question for the top two D1 teams to go if they were Carondelet and Heritage.

And what about Salesian and Campo both going?

Finally, St. Joseph Notre Dame has a win over Carondelet, and will finish with a very good won-loss record, most likely.

Miramonte and O'Dowd have each stumbled a bit so far, so it will be interesting to see how NCS D2 plays out.

Also note that Enterprise is in the Emerald at the WCJ along with Castro Valley and Antelope (to name just two), and if Enterprise wins that bracket, finishes unbeaten and adds in the win over Sacramento, the Open might just beckon.

Salesien,Cn and Campo out of d3 all go? Miramonte wins d2 and doesn't go? And here comes the keep Miramonte out of the open campaign.. D3 Champ will go.

I'm sure the NCS D3 champ will go, and I'm pretty sure the D2 champ will go as well. But the second place D3 team might go, and the second place D1 as well. And if SJND winds up 25-5 and wins D4 (with the win over Carondelet), they'll be in the discussion.

It will be very interesting at the meeting, as Folsom and SMS seem like locks, and Mitty too. But Pinewood lost to Salesian, so if Pinewood finishes second in the CCS Open, does Salesian bump them?

And what about a 24-2 Enterprise team?

Open section in the SJS or any section is just a bad idea. There are POWERHOUSE teams like SMS and MITTY will win every time and others teams that lost will have and advantages over some that's in the Norcal seeding. Most of those teams will have home advantage over a team that beat them during year.

This in my taughts section need to follow the way that SJS does things. If a team win 3 Section Championships they must move up 1 division and if a team goes to the Open automatically stays in D1 the next 2 years. Some people call it unfair because the team comeback not as good. Think how them teams that the Open teams smashed along the way they didn't have no Sympathy for them teams.

IF sections follow this why of seeding Division best of the best teams will eventually end all in D1.
