I knew this game would be close. I don't know if the Irish had injured players or just lacked depth. JV and Frosh didn't do well, either. They need some AD's who want to bring that powerhouse back. That goes for Volleyball too.
For the girls team I would say where they were placed in CCS and Norcals were where I'd expect them to be. The hard truth maybe you are not accepting is no school is dethroning Mitty for the foreseeable future. The mission rec pipeline and Harrigan days are over. Coach Jackson and team did as well as they could while missing their best perimeter player for the season. As far as the AD(s), Smith to me appears to have brought in more "talent" on the boys side than girls side, particularly in football. Girls hoops and volleyball yes have been better in the past but havent lived up to the greatness of teams in the past.
I'm not expecting more than seeing them play well. The whole basketball program on both sides needs a refresh. If Riordan and SI can get talent, there's no reason SHC can't. If they don't have the "pipeline" anymore, they should start another one.
Girls soccer has gotten better and the boys won the JV soccer title. Boys basketball had NO Seniors on the team. They may as well have had two JV teams. Clearly, they have some work to do and a house cleaning is necessary. I think Demetrious Jackson does a great job with the players. Harrigan was in the class behind me. That was a great run. They got these huge rings for winning the National Title.
Love my school. Love them when they are good. Probably dont pay much attention when they are pretty bad. This year's boys hoops team looked promising in the non-league games, but that was about it. Smith probably needs to step down and find a real coach. He ran one play which is to move the ball to get a corner 3. The frequent subs I thought were ok in the beginning but they started to become annoying. All the players they had had talent except they were all 4 inches too short. A bunch of 5'10, 6' guys that if they were 6'2-6'5 would be more formidable.
I cant say much for the girls teams other than they have a 0.0001% of supplanting the Mitty Machine.
In SHC girls basketball defense, Riordan now provides another option for talented players to go. Even in the old days, some of the MRC girls went to S.I. Now MRC isn't the program it used to be and Bay City feeds into Riordan. I think it's going to be tougher than ever for SHC to catch up. And as other strong programs demonstrate, success breeds success.
