No, not a score update. Just a prediction. Come on arm chair high school coaches, make a prediction on the game of the year in the CCS. Winner of this game will most likely also take the NorCal title, too. I gotta take Serra. Seen them both play live and don’t think SF can stop Serra....... best O-line in the section. Better athletes, FASTER defense, too. Guess we’ll have to see but with the game being played on the Brady Family Field, think the computer has this one wrong.

I waffled bigtime on this one in Pick’em before going with St Francis with 1-point non-confidence.

The Padres are going to miss Mahasin, arguably the most important impact offensive star in CCS, in this one. A lot. Out for the season with an injury, his presence changed defenses. He could score from anywhere on the field in different ways. He was the WCAL's X-factor. The Lancers are, by far, Serra's toughest challenge thus far. Without Mahasin, Serra appears to be an underdog Saturday. By the way, throw out that weird spring score, Serra 49, St. Francis 7. That was an aberration that has no bearing on this weekend's affair, unless the Lancers have taken that final score rather personally.

One more thing: Regardless of Saturday's outcome, it appears likely these two papal powers will play each other again during the CCS playoffs _ unless a Los Gatos or even a Salinas or a Bellarmine throws a monkey wrench into the mix.

Agree with Jordan. I think it will be a shoot out,38-28 but Serra plays to careless with penalties. They need to clean up the penalties if they want to win. Serra will miss the Missile.

IDC what the score will be. I’d just like to see SF follow through on their amazing season thus far.

Go Lancers!
Best hope NorCal has to replace DLS in this year's Open. If Serra had their starting QB, whom they've lost to injury, Serra would probably be favored

Your bookie is going to love you. He's waiting by the phone for your call......🤑😎
I was being sarcastic, I really don’t know much about the who’s who on that side of the bay.

I’m hearing Serra is the real deal though. Not sure why they are the under dog, they just beat SF a few months ago and it wasn’t even close.

Even after this game, chances are excellent they'll face off again in the CCS finals. Wouldn't be surprised, not at all

Serra seems to have largely sleepwalked through this season, with the exception of maybe the Bellarmine game. There's that adage about practicing how you intend to play in the game. Is that because they just haven't wanted to show too much to any playoff team they may face or perhaps because their reputation is a little inflated? Hard to say.

It seems like the Lancers have been a bit more focused (the result of their game with the Bells, notwithstanding).

Here is what I'm kind of guessing could be the impact of two games between these teams...

If either team sweeps, they are the NorCal Open Division rep.

If Serra wins this week, but St. Francis wins in playoffs, Lancers are NorCal Open rep.

If St. Francis wins this week, but Serra wins in playoffs, De La Salle is NorCal Open rep. I just have a funny feeling about this.

My guess for the result? Right now, I think SF wins in the regular season, but Serra wins in the playoffs. I think the Padres will get pushed around a little this weekend, but assert themselves in the playoffs.

Wouldn’t be surprised with your scenarios.

Yes on TV20 or online at BAOSN.TV which has excellent streaming & no membership required [comes in fine on your Iph].
Rmbr, any gut feeling on this Saturday face off? I think St. Francis is huge on the line, as is Serra but the Lancers look the part with maulers. I'm still going with PPPad RRRes playing @home but I would hate to be the mike back shoulders blowing up the FB every play. Lolo_O

I can see in the weekly Pick-Ems contest most are having trouble figuring out the Serra-SF game as their records and team stats are nearly identical. Then there is that one game no one can ignore... SF 28-26 over DLS.
CalPreps has SF by 4 at 28-24 Lancers'.

Here's how I see it. On offense The Lancers have the edge in the run game. The Padres have the edge in the passing game. The defenses I have as even as both are excellent. At QB I give the edge to Serra as Lampkin is the bigger dual-threat. The one variable are penalties/turnovers which Serra leads SF by a wide margin. SF's QB Perry is excellent at directing their ball control offense which relies on their run game and controlling the clock. That being said if Serra is forced to punt due to penalties or simply turns the ball over by fumbles/int's then its SF's game. If Serra's D can contain SF's run game and force them to throw then edge to Padres. If Serra's Lampkin throws too much into traffic then SF's secondary will likely get at least one INT. So if Serra minimizes penalties and turnovers I like Serra. If Serra has more than 3-4 penalties and more than 1 turnover I like the Lancers.

The seniors from both teams are gone from last April's 49-7 win by Serra with a running clock. Also gone for this game is Serra's Mahasin who scored 4 TD's in that game. What is not gone is the SF coaching staff and other players memory of that debacle game which certainly could be a motivating factor for the Lancers. Serra had better be prepared as I expect SF to come out strong early.

Saint Francis is a second half team this year. They are big and physical ( as is Serra )and the body blows start having effects in the late 3rd quarter.

I don’t know a lot about Serra this year. I haven’t seen them play so any score would not surprise me. I do know that if Serra wins that they are beating a really good SF team.

Good luck to both teams.

Is this the best SF team ever?

IMO, no... They are the best team of this decade and in the last 20 years. But teams I have seen in the 1990s were better. Before that, I cannot say, but stats suggest that some of their teams were even better. I seem to remember that one year SF was ranked #1 in the nation - I believe that stat was from records kept by Nelson Tennis (and son Mark Tennis) in their Cal-Hi State Records books.

There are individuals on this board that may have more relevant and direct knowledge of those years.

Well when you beat DLS ending a historic 30 year win streak in NorCal that they have to be pretty good. The SF team that won the state championship a few years ago was also pretty good. I would say in contemporary times it could be but they had a few teams in the 80’s that were really good. We will know more today after the game

Is this the best O line St Francis has ever had?

St Francis did a fantastic job controlling the tempo of the game. Clock management in 2nd half was perfect. Great atmosphere out here for Polynesian Day. When you cannot get ANY stops, it's impossible to win.

The better team won. Serra's defense got manhandled. SF is legit. SF Running back had over 350 yards.
SF O line DOMINATED the game. I saw plenty of blocks being finished off yards downfield consistently by SF. Teu was running through huge holes all day. Would Mahasin have made that much of a difference? Asking more knowledgeable WCAL guy's opinion on that

SF definitely the better team. Serra may have to play Lancers again in CCS playoffs as well. Crowd today had to be biggest ever at the Serra field, approaching 7,000 if you count everyone standing and all of those outside on the fence line. For what it's worth, Padres won frosh and JV league titles this year. Will Lancers and DLS meet again in NorCal playoffs? Unsure on that point.
