Serra 24 - St. Francis 20

SF O line DOMINATED the game. I saw plenty of blocks being finished off yards downfield consistently by SF. Teu was running through huge holes all day. Would Mahasin have made that much of a difference? Asking more knowledgeable WCAL guy's opinion on that
Mahasin doesn't play defense. So no.

SF definitely the better team. Serra may have to play Lancers again in CCS playoffs as well. Crowd today had to be biggest ever at the Serra field, approaching 7,000 if you count everyone standing and all of those outside on the fence line. For what it's worth, Padres won frosh and JV league titles this year. Will Lancers and DLS meet again in NorCal playoffs? Unsure on that point.
No. If SF wins the CCS title, they will play the SS D-I winner for the Open title. DLS will play in the NorCal regional for D-1AA, probably against the SJS D-I winner.

Looks like SF controls their own destiny to this point for sure

I'm not sure how this works but would St. Francis have to play a bowl game to be crowned the open rep for norcal?

No, as there is no Regional Open game.

DLS only played NorCal Regional games in 2012 and 2013 then the game was eliminated. Since that time DLS has advanced directly from the NCS Section playoffs to the Open State Bowl game.

Since SF is in line for that spot this season, they‘d advance the same way. If SF somehow loses in the CCS Open, that opportunity would be up for grabs with Rocklin likely being in the driver seat should they win SJS D1 (with an undefeated record, of course).

The other 12 NorCal divisions would have to play a Regional game.

Thanks TR, I thought that was the way the open was/is handled. thanks for the clarification.

CCS no longer has an open division - only D1-D5. Even so the effect is similar in that the top 8 team are placed in D1 regardless to enrollment. And the remaining divisions follow suit with D2 supposedly having the next top 8 teams (9-16) and so on through D5 for all 40 teams in playoffs.

Well, I sure missed out on that. When did the change happen?

Thanks for the heads up.
2019 was the first year of this playoff seeding system.

Not having enrollment factors creates some unusual scenarios such as 2019's Milpitas team being placed in CCS D-4, winning sectional and eventually competing in SBG D5-A. Milpitas is among the largest enrollment-sized schools in CCS.

If there’s one tweak I could live with, it’s:

1. No B or C teams in D-1.

2. No A teams in D-5.
